iluvtofly 0 #1 October 25, 2007 So it's my first night shift alone at my job. I'm a dispatcher for the local ambulance company. They have officially taken off my training wheels. I'm slightly nervous that all hell is going to break lose in the middle of the night. Wish me luck. (At least I know I won't be getting any calls from the DZ during my shift. )

iluvtofly 0 #7 October 25, 2007 Thanks. I've also been warned though that the crews like to give the new dispatchers shit. They'll refuse to do stuff and things like that. I just gotta remember not to take any of their shit. I already had one guy tell me that if I made him go to Pittsburgh (about an hour from here) he'd quit on me. We'll see what happens I guess. If I were you, I'd be proactive. I would write out a list of things to do for every skydiving situation that you will be called on to handle.... 1. Joey's golf cart crashing 2. Sammy's fire jumping 3. Martha's alcohol overdose 4. Jimmy's truck-launched pararsailing . . . .My reality and yours are quite different. I think we're all Bozos on this bus. jdthomas 0 #15 October 25, 2007 Ahh love the new dispatch... or dick patch as we call them when they screw up and address. You will do fine or I am sure you did fine, I always try to make it intresting for our dispatch girls and I put myself in route to calls with changing the name of where we are going.. something like Senior villiage become senial villiage. medical lodge becomes medicine lodge and adding an S to each word is also fun at we hours of the morning! man we are lame.. oh well. iluvtofly 0 #16 October 25, 2007 I survived. No major disasters. A coupe of emergencies but nothing really serious. The one paramedic did try to screw with me a couple of times but I knew what he was doing. I was lucky with the crews that I had on my first night alone. Now tonight will be a whole different story.
