Lost puppies - long story

Recommended Posts

Once again, I find myself with a lost puppy in my yard. Happened about the same time last year. And before you ask, yes, the yard is fenced (see my previous post about my Sunday Project).

I have 2 cats so I have cut away a panel in my gate (about a foot by a foot) so my fat cat can come and go as he pleases to the end of the garage pad. That's as far as he ventures.

ANYway ... tonight, a little puppy decides to come in through that hole and onto my deck. To the chagrin of Herc, my "big white cat" (also known as a Boxer). Said puppy is, as far as I can tell, a Pit Bull. They bark at each other through the patio door and I scoot Herc futher into the house to see if I can find out where this little dude (yes, I saw a penis, he's a dude!) belongs. No collar. No tats, nothing.

So now I have a dog on my deck, making the dog in my house rather uncomfortable. And the dog on the deck won't leave. My cat has a rather comfortable chair out there that he's starting to think is his new home.

So, I grab the phone, go out onto the deck (WITH a glass of wine) and proceed to call and get ahold of animal control. And get put on hold.

In the meantime, this little fella is cuddling against my legs and trying to find a way to get into my lap or, if he can, into the house. Herc is blocking that path so he's trying to crawl up my legs and onto my lap. He's not that big. About 16" tall and maybe, 30 lbs. Only slightly larger than my fat cat.

He is so terrified of Herc (who's just sitting there doing nothing - as he normally does) that he's SHAKING. I scoot the big white cat into the house and close the patio doors. Shaking subsides. But he continues to sit at my feet and rub against my legs. He really is cute. And well behaved.

I get a live person at animal control and they get all the details from me, etc, etc, etc, and will send someone out within the hour.

Great. I have MY dog sitting in the house staring at me while I'm out on the deck with ANOTHER dog.

I do what any person would with a stray dog and her own in the house. I squeeze through the patio door, close it, go get dog treats and take them out to the HOMELESS guy on the deck. Apparently he's loved and trained because immediatley upon smelling said treats, his ass hits the deck, his paw hits the air and he sits there looking really, really cute. He got the treat. Twice. Okay, three times. He was quite cute.

So I sit there with this little homeless guy while my little buddy stares at me through the patio doors. I feel like SUCH a traitor. But I realize it's for the good of the puppy.

And finally animal control arrives. And the little puppy barks at them like he owns the house and how dare they come in the yard.

And he laughs and says "We got a call that someone lost a dog that looks just like him in this area. We're going to take him there now."

I hope he's home safe and sound. He was such a cutie.

Sounds like that one would have had a happy ending either way.;) Glad to hear that he's getting reunited with his original family - hope they tag him soon!

That's what he said when he picked him up. He didn't even get put in the back of the truck. He rode "shotgun" with the guy from animal control. All he said was "He can ride with me. He's pretty cool. If it's not their's, he'll get adopted real quick. He's really cute."

I really hope it's his family and the tags and tats get done soon!

My new ones are wearing collars and tags - the tags were the first thing I got for them. Daisy's already chipped, too; I'll get Franklin chipped in a couple of weeks when I take him in for his last series of shots and neutering. They're both going to be indoor cats, but just in case...

My big white cat (AKA Herc the Boxer) is tattooed and has his tags too .. but he doesn't go out unless I do.

Fat Cat (who doesn't venture outside the yard) has a tat but no collar ... I don't like cats with collars .. they can get hung up on stuff with them on.

My wandering cat (who I lost a little while back) is now chipped but I still won't put a collar on him as he's my happy wanderer and I don't want him getting hung up on things.

Tats, chips or tags. Do whatever you think is best to keep your pets safe.

My dog is chipped and has a tattoo, but it's only to show that she is spayed. Is that what kind of tattoo y'all are talking about? :S

Yep, inner ear and I think they do tattoo them when they spay or neuter them but here, it's also used in case they get lost! When you register your cats and dogs and get their tags, they'll put the tattoo number (or microchip nubmer) down with their tag numbers. Thay way, if they get lost and show up at the pound, they can find their owners.

Hopefully this little guy had a microchip because he didn't have a tattoo.
