hungarianchick 0 #26 October 29, 2007 Just to put this little kindergarden squabble to rest there are variations between the British and American spelling of certain words. I know, I lived, worked and studied for years in both countries. So you are both wrong. Or right. Or, whatever. "I love cooking with wine. Sometimes I even put it in the food." NWFlyer 2 #30 October 29, 2007 Very. I have a first name that is constantly butchered, and a last name that is less prone to butchering, but still does from time to time. I'm very sensitive to spelling peoples' names correctly and ensuring that I'm using the name that they want me to use (nickname, formal name, etc.) depending on the situation. It shows respect, I think. It's also why I get irritated when people immediately shorten my name when they meet me - it means they couldn't be bothered to pay attention. Re: "that certain magazine" - if you're positive they're getting the correct info as an input ... if they can't manage to get the output right, well, that sucks. Makes me glad that *we're* providing the layout for the memorial ad... I'd feel truly truly awful if someone's name was spelled wrong there. airtwardo 7 #35 October 29, 2007 Quote . . . to have your name spelled correctly if printed in a publication? After Several attempts to try to insure that (A certain Magazine) spells my last name the right way, I have given up.I tried - but - after at least 6 individual instances . . . they still can't get it right. What would you do? It's always nice to see it spelled correctly, but with MY last name I understand the difficulty...took me until the 8th grade to get it right! It's frustrating when you take special measures to give it to a publication and they STILL get it wrong...but I think it has something to do with the professionalism of the person, the attachment shows an article that I just KNEW would be spelling butchered, the reporter / photog wrote my name on his palm in the aircraft on the way to altitude. Somehow he got it right, and I sent him a thank you note praising his sweaty penmanship! ~ If you choke a Smurf, what color does it turn? ~
