So why is it....

Recommended Posts

that when you ask people to do what they're getting paid for they get pissed?

I'm a dispatcher for the local ambulance company. I just got a trip from the hospital in town to one about 2 hours away. So now instead of getting paid to sleep they have to actually do work. They blame me as if I decided to wait till 1AM to send this patient. I don't think they realize that I'd rather be getting paid to sleep right now as well but so long as a crew is out doing something I have to be awake as well.

Sorry, rant over.

I doubt that they're really mad at you.

It's far more likely that they are wondering about WHY at 1am? And I would too?

If it's truly cuz the patient is going to crash soon... then they might be nervous about having this pt in a remote environment away from the help that they would need if something bad happens. if it's a routine transfer, then they would be thinking "1AM?!" What doctor ordered that at 1am? And it just does seem like a "dump." If it's somewhere in between.... then, I'm sure, once they look at the variables, they might actually find it kinda cool that they were important in helping to safe this persons life. (but... that's once they wake up and get their coffee)

I don't know how the EMS systems run where you are, but here in FL, they are on 24 hrs at a time. Maybe they were just grouchy from being tired.... I dunno... I know after I graduate and go to work as an EMT, it gonna take a lot of adjusting to get used to that schedule... I wouldnt take it personally... give them shit right back....;)
