ACMESkydiver 0 #1 October 23, 2007 I haven't worked out in probably a week! And I've been eating sherbert and crap!!! Dammit...but I'm back on track starting right NOW (not this morning, cause I had 2 Halloween size Butterfingers for breakfast and snack, and had a homemade choc chip cookie with my coffee -damn caregiver and her baking!!!!! ) As of right now, I'm back in my gym clothes, and I'm heading to the gym to get back into my routine. I also have a new eating plan...kinda. Little Derick's doc has said that the med he's on is causing his enormous appetite and sluggishness in the late afternoons...the boy gained 10% of his body weight in 3 months and is too heavy. He weighs 92, and his twin weighs 76! I have to take charge, and doc said the South Beach diet puts out healthy guidelines to follow. $85 later, and 4 South Beach diet books (the original and 3 cook books) later, I'm staying positive, but it's gonna be hard to go dairy free wheat(gluten) free on this. I will do it though; my baby boy is worth it! Since he's on South Beach DF/GF, we are ALL going on it. I'm not cooking 4 times for each meal. That shite is getting old. I'm the only one that will be doing phase 1 with no breads or bad carbs for 2 weeks... Time to make a shopping list. Sleep issues have become a problem, but I think that if I can get into a better workout habit, I'll get that turned around. Even with my dismal performance of late, my pants are still fitting looser around the middle and thighs! Even jeans right out of the dryer!!! WOO-HOO!! Anyone else having some success? Need a kick in the tushy? ~Jaye Do not believe that possibly you can escape the reward of your action.
gonzalesna 0 #2 October 23, 2007 After about 2 weeks off, I got back in the gym yesterday and have been staying on my daily routine so far. After today's workout, I KNOW tomorrow's gonna suck! Some people refrain from beating a dead horse. Personally, I find a myriad of entertainment value when beating it until it becomes a horse-smoothie. skybytch 273 #3 October 23, 2007 I'm not doing too bad. Still need to motivate myself to get more walking in on the weekdays I don't have to go to main campus, but I'm up to 200 stairs and (estimating) about 3 miles on main campus days. I did discover just how far I still have to go over the weekend; felt fine after 7.5 miles on Saturday (which is an improvement) but I pooped out after hiking only 5 on Sunday and am still a little sore in the legs today even though I only did about a mile on Monday. MrFreefall383 0 #4 October 23, 2007 Eh, we're all slackers. Always room to get back in the game. I was sick for a week, didn't work out at all because I could hardly breath without coughing up my guts. Was feeling better by Saturday, tried to go for an evening swim to get back into it, but there was a swim meet going on. So I got up on Sunday, did some running and some pullups. Monday got back into 5am wakeups with a swim, came back and did 300 situps, 1 minute of swimmers for lower back, 25 pullups, and 25 chinups. Today I focused completely on lowerbody. Did 1500m of swimming, first time I completed a consecutive 500 of freestyle with fins, mask, and snorkel. The rest was kick development. Then I came back, took a short rest, got showered and had breakfast, and then went to the high school and ran 2 miles in just a scratch over 15 minutes. Tomorrow's going to be another running day with tons of ab work, pushups, and anything else I can get in. Promised myself I wouldn't slack off, and now that I'm no longer sick, I'm hitting it twice as hard."If at first you don't succeed... well, so much for skydiving." - aviation cliche
johndh1 0 #5 October 23, 2007 Back to original post, without "quote" - one thing you have to remember is the season is changing toward colder, and your body wants to fatten you up for Winter, so you have to stay ahead of the cycle. The other is you need a friend to go to the gym with, who will call you and care enough to tell you what you need to hear about why you aren't in the gym at least three, but preferably 5 days a week...whether they need to be nice or be not-so-nice about it. You're paying for it, remember? Every time you go, your per-visit cost goes down. Keep at it, regularly and consistently or you will be fighting this problem and on a slightly bigger scale next Spring when you are getting ready for swimsuit season, and it's not worth it. Only you can make your ass go. Drastic diet changes are not the biggest benefit, especially not before the holidays approaching, because you won't keep up with them. No one does.Roll Tide Roll

Yeah, but if that pic of you on the other thread where we all posted ourselves (the one you called "whitey") is recent, you don't have much to worry about - you're tight. You even have those lines from your lower waist down toward your groin. I hardly have those, and I'm a trainer. But, I do take in a lot of calories and probably weigh about 50# more than you too, but still, keep it up...and get out into the sun some too, and even better yet, drink some carrot juice every day - that'll darken you up and naturally accentuate what I presume is possibly some ethnic heritage. Plus, the carrot juice is the best juice you can drink.Roll Tide Roll

If you do the stairs, never skip steps thinking you are doing yourself good by the "burn" from it. It's bad for your knees. Ditto the stairmaster. A lot of gyms don't use them anymore (I'm not talking about the thing that works like an escalator).Roll Tide Roll

A nice light omelet for breakfast...some lean meats and soy yogurts (can't find 'light' goat cheese yet, unfortunately ) and salad for lunch -they LOVE salads suddenly, so that's great! We're just going to do without rice, potatoes, and a great deal of breads. They aren't going to do the 'no fruit' portion of this diet. Since they love fruit, that's a good thing. And I have a fantastic new South Beach Diet Holiday cook book, and my sis and I are pretty handy around the kitchen. And since daddy is now on lower fat, lower sugar dieting due to his cancer, & sis, bro, mom and I are all trying to shed some pounds, I'm thinking this will be a great way to make Thanksgiving feast. ~Jaye Do not believe that possibly you can escape the reward of your action. SarahC07 0 #15 October 24, 2007 So, I did it. I hired a trainer. I was selective and talked to many different trainers before I finally hired one. SHE'S AWESOME! I see her two nights aweek at 24 hour fitness and I'm never on a machine. Since tracking only my food intake on myapex.com wasn't exciting enough, I bought a body bugg. I get to wear this little gray thing on the back of my right upper arm and it monitors my body temp, my heart rate and other things to estimate approximately how many calories I'm burning each minute. It's pretty neat!! If you've got the cash, Amber at 24 hour fitness on 1960/jones in Houston, TX is an amazing trainer... however, I think she just booked up her evening hours... NWFlyer 2 #17 October 24, 2007 I have an appointment tomorrow with these guys. I'm hoping they can help me figure out if my gut instinct is right and I've really screwed my metabolism up in the last couple years of yo-yo-bullshit-eating-and-exercise habits. tigra 0 #18 October 24, 2007 I've been good with the workouts, but you are so right about the changing weather. I've been eating a lot more lately. I'm not gaining weight, but I'm not losing any either. Still, the work I've been doing with my trainer (and on my own) is really starting to pay off and show even if the scale isn't budging.
johndh1 0 #19 October 24, 2007 I always tell the people at the gym the scale is not your friend. It can move several pounds throughout the course of the day, depending on how much you eat, how much water you drink (usually not nearly enough) and how many dumps you take. I don't even follow the idea of "target body weight" so many ascribe to in the fitness industry (and doctors too). I mean, my BMI reads that I am one point below obese, usually, and that at 6' I should weigh like 160 or 170. It doesn't count for the fact that my body fat is like at 12% but I weighed 218# today. I'm pretty solid. Same goes for girls - look at some of these college gymnast types (and cheerleaders, if you look close), in great health, with those muscular thighs and all, and their BMI usually shows they should target for like 10 or 20# below what they do. They couldn't stunt with that. You have to work to accentuate the proportion of your individual physique - that will make all the difference in the world.. I'd like to weigh something like 250 or 260, but I'm never going to maintain that naturally. The most I've been is 240 up to last January, and I was miserable with all the extra protein, and before the FDA banning Jan. 1 2007, Methyl 1-Alpha, and with the crazy diet I actually developed symptoms of onset diabetes from overworking my kidneys with the supplements. Plus, I look good like I am, if I do say so myself. I know guys who weigh 170, and by doing certain things, most would swear they weigh 200 - by things, I mean shaping certain areas of the body so the "fit" better. For men, to narrow the waist means broadening of the shoulders, and thickening of the thighs, butt, and chest. For women, it makes the boobs look bigger, and maybe the hips sometimes too, but that's not a bad thing. Who, I ask, wants to have to hook your knuckles into something grose like Paris Hilton's protruding hip-bones just to hold on? I'd be afraid I might break something off like one of those hollow chocolate Easter Bunny ears. Some guys get into the gym and work so hard on their upper, and leave their legs ridiculous-skinny in comparison. They would be so much better off laying off the upper and toning down, but you will never get it across to them, because it is the same psychological situation of anorexia. I have to get input from others who I trust myself, and even then, I sometimes check to make sure my arms don't measure more than my calves. Didn't mean to get off on all that. Unfortunately I can't do $400 right now, but I think it would be a great fitness aid. Let us know how you're liking it! Glad you found a good trainer, too. Mine kinda disappeared...I'm not sure if she's not working there any more or she just happens to work when I'm not there. I've decided to wait on buying more sessions anyhoo until I take care of my obvious needs first. Again, it's too expensive, and geesh in my condition it's pretty darned obvious what I need. More of everything I'm already doing...When I lose some more and get more into very specific muscle conditioning, I'll check into a trainer again. ACMESkydiver 0 #21 October 24, 2007 Quote I have an appointment tomorrow with these guys. I sent them a question via email...I'm wondering if they might be able to make sure I'm doing what I need to. I like the fact that they have an MD that runs it; looks like what I've been kinda looking for: a 'whole approach' deal. I've been trying to manage my Thyroid Disease, but when your doc isn't a nutritionist or a personal trainer, and your gym doesn't know how the thyroid meds you're on affect you, it's kind of difficult trying to match up two halves in the dark. Its doesn't tick off the calories the same way the ellipitical at the gym does, but the heart rate monitor is spot on. I think I paid about $40.00 for it, not $400.00.
