The only difference is that you can't actually touch each other. But you can still say that you were boxing. It is a version of a sport that is primarily defined by full contact, except that there is no contact. Perhaps no-water freestyle swimming too. It could be done in an actual pool, but without the water, for people who can't swim or don't like water. They just quietly walk back and forth.
