skybytch 273 #1 November 4, 2007 Question for the US people... About once a week I get someone else's mail (wrong name and/or wrong address) in my mailbox. Some of it is obviously intended for a previous resident of this address but some of it obviously isn't. That which isn't junk mail I put into the outgoing mail slot in the hopes that it will get to the right person eventually. Yesterday I was expecting an envelope to arrive with a check in it. The sender is a large institution who can be trusted to send checks out on time. I watched the mail lady finish with the cluster box that my mailbox is in (there's six cluster boxes in a row). When I went out to check it, she was still throwing mail into the other boxes, all the while chatting away on her cell phone - which I've seen/heard her doing pretty much every day. The envelope I was expecting was not in my box (she did manage to get all the junk mail in there though). Seemed a bit strange to me as every other time I've gotten a check from the institution it has arrived the day after it was supposed to be mailed. I was worried but figured there's always the possibility that this time shit happened to me and the envelope would be there on Monday, so I didn't say anything to her. When we got home from the dz last night one of our neighbors (the cool one, thankfully) knocked on the door. Guess what she had found in her mailbox? Yup. The envelope that I was expecting. I'm lucky that it went into her box and not the other neighbors - if it'd gone there I'd probably have never received it. Now I really wonder how much other mail I'm not getting - never did hear from the school regarding my scholarship application and the notifications for those were supposedly only done by mail. So my current dilemma is - do I say something to the mail lady? Or do I go to the post office on Monday and ask to speak with the postmaster? Or what? I don't want to put anybody out of their job, but I do think that I have some right to expect that something that is mailed to my name at the correct address actually be delivered to my mail box... and I don't think I should have to pay for a PO box or a box at a mailboxes etc or similar place for that to happen. What do you think?
squirrel 0 #2 November 4, 2007 For some reason, mail sent to my house was being returned (checks from some of my rental tenants) and was marked "non occupied address." SAYS WHO!!!! Just becasue I let the front grass die?, we are in a drought here. Headed down to the post office and informed them of the problem...they said the route had recently "gone up for bid" and had a substitute carrier on it....SO! There were stamps on the letters, they (the USPS) had gotten paid! Sorry was the only answer they could give...makes me wanna go postal on the postal service! ________________________________ Where is Darwin when you need him? Shotgun 1 #3 November 4, 2007 Good luck. This has been happening to us ever since we moved to Murrieta (a few years now). I tried putting notes on my mailbox (Please leave mail for only "this name" and "that name.") I called the post office and complained several times, and I eventually even spoke with the post office manager who assured me it would get straightened out. Nothing changed; we still get lots of mail for other people. So far we haven't had any important mail go missing , but it does make me wonder if we miss out on some of our mail that we're not aware of. Oh, and we have one of those cluster boxes too. Not sure if that has anything to do with it, but I've never had this problem before.
Andy9o8 2 #4 November 4, 2007 I would bytch to the local postmaster, but I would do it over the phone, without giving my name or specific box-number. (If you live alone, maybe get a man to make the call, to throw off the scent...) That way, if the carrier retaliates by fucking with the mail, she'll have to do it to the entire cluster, and won't target just you.

I totally agree about "..throwing the scent off" that is a very wise idea, and I started to disagree with which cluster you would calling in about, but then a THOUGHT entered my space and it is telling me to also mention that you are going to affix a video cam from yr window to the cluster and tape the carrier as she/he chit chats while delevering yr goods and totatally screwing up what use to be a pretty decent job!!! "It aint true unless it's on video"..... Or maybe you could......... nah ya better not cuz they have federal prisons for peeps that do that sorta stuf to federal employees!!! And dont try and tell me that the USPS is a PRIVATE company! ack ack cough phooey edited~spelling
