BillyVance 35 #1 November 7, 2007 I have been having a recurring problem with ants in my master bathroom, crawling around the shower, tub and sinks for the past month or so. They just drive me crazy. Well, the last couple of days I have noticed a couple dozen ants crawling around the water lever in the shower. I'd spray that area with ant killer and clean up the mess every time I saw a bunch on there. Well today I saw a bunch, sprayed, cleaned up, and not 5 minutes later saw a bunch in the same area crawling around!! A closer look at the lever (which is a Delta crystal ball type of lever) And there were some discoloration on the inside. Oh shit.... Went to the garage to fetch a couple of screwdrivers - phillips and flathead. Pried the cap off the ball lever and my jaw hit the floor of the shower when I saw what was inside. Hundreds of ants working on maybe thousands of little white ant eggs!!! I ran through the house looking for my trusty digital camera so I could get a few quick pictures to post on here, but I couldn't find it, FUCK! I gave up on that, not wanting to give the ants time to spread out. Took the can of killer spray, aimed it right into the ball lever cavity, and, PSSSSSSHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH. The overflow of killer fluid spilled the ants and eggs out and down the wall of the shower and across the floor of the shower. Wow... After rinsing out the ball lever and cleaning up the mess, I dismantled the lever, taking it off and taking the plate behind it off. Time to clean the gunk off of them. I noticed the plate had loosened up so you could slide it back and forth a bit. Cleaned the parts real good, put them back on and tightened the screws good. Tried to slide it back and forth, but it was tight enough not to. Good. Went and got the caulk gun, laid a line of caulk all the way around. Fuck yeah, that'll keep those goddamn little bastards from getting in from behind the fucking wall. Man, is my wife gonna freak out when I tell her she's been showering with a mass of ant eggs just inches away for the past month! And she's gonna get a lecture from me about keeping the damn camera where it should be. BillyVance 35 #3 November 7, 2007 Quote So just how many bodies have you found behind the various walls of this house anyway! Quite a few! We did find skeletal remains of a cat in the basement one time that we figured belonged to one of our cats that disappeared. The only way I figured that she could get in there was through the gap between foundation walls of the original house and the master suite addition (which has the basement), and she may have gotten through the gap between the top of the foundation wall and the floor rafters, and jumped down. No way out. This was during winter when we never had any need to get anything from the basement, which is only accessible from the outside. We found the remains 5 months later. I remember we had looked and looked for two weeks outside calling her name to no avail."Mediocre people don't like high achievers, and high achievers don't like mediocre people." - SIX TIME National Champion coach Nick Saban

Depends...Some people refrain from beating a dead horse. Personally, I find a myriad of entertainment value when beating it until it becomes a horse-smoothie. Royd 0 #6 November 8, 2007 Do you know if they are carpenter ants? They can smell wet wood a mile away. You might have a leak in the shower or the roof.
BillyVance 35 #7 November 8, 2007 QuoteDo you know if they are carpenter ants? They can smell wet wood a mile away. You might have a leak in the shower or the roof. How big are these carpenter ants? The ones I had in the bathroom are pretty small. jtval 0 #8 November 8, 2007 It may be the perfect time to go get about 3-5 House Geckos and let em go in your house. IF it gets cold in Alabamarainia they will stay close to the warmth of your house and they will eat the bugs inside your walls. Most ants are poisonous to lizards (IIRC) but they will eat what they find. I say HOUSE geckos, specifically, because they can climb upside down. not something many lizards can do. RkyMtnHigh 0 #9 November 8, 2007 I had an ant problem in my car for the past few weeks. I put four traps out and it didn't do the trick. Sprayed them...nothing. These ants are resilient and their bites *hurt* _________________________________________
