kschilk 0 #2 November 15, 2007 Thanks for posting this! As a WWll enthusiast, I've always been fond of the "Fork-Tailed Devil". A P-40 Kittyhawk was found buried in the woods, in Russia (somewhere near St. Petersburg), about 2 years ago. Always cool to see the old warbirds resurface, after all those years...like the P-38s that were found buried in the ice, a while back."T'was ever thus." 2fat2fly 0 #3 November 15, 2007 Just peel off the data plate and rebuild everything around it. American Aero down in New Smyrna Beach, FL could do itI am not the man. But the man knows my name...and he's worried

monkycndo 0 #5 November 15, 2007 The other nick name for the P-38? Two P-40s with a coffin in the middle.Only lost the nickname when they figured out the problem of the compressibility stall. It was my favorite plane as a kid. Kelly Johnson could sure design a beautiful bird. 50 donations so far. Give it a try. kschilk 0 #6 November 15, 2007 I always thought the P-61 Black Widow nightfighter was cool too. Anybody remember the designation for the split-tail that was made from two P-51s?"T'was ever thus."

Read about it in 6th grade but forgot. MrFreefall383 0 #16 November 15, 2007 Never too corroded to save unless it's not there. That looks pretty well intact. You'd be amazed what a good team of salvage experts can do. A picture like that is actually beautiful to me. Imagine what it'll look like when a salvage team gets their hands on it. Seems like I'm in a thread with a bunch of WW2 aviation nuts."If at first you don't succeed... well, so much for skydiving." - aviation cliche

VideoFly 0 #20 November 15, 2007 It was my dad's favorite plane during the war. As rare as they are, it will most likely be bid on heavily and be rebuilt to new condition.
MrFreefall383 0 #21 November 15, 2007 I'd love to see another P-38 rebuilt. One more for me to see at an airshow somewhere."If at first you don't succeed... well, so much for skydiving." - aviation cliche
