What to do in Seattle?

Recommended Posts

I will have some downtime in Seattle on the 15th while my S/O is in an interview. I have about 3/4 of a day to kill. I have a car, and some $ to play with...
I was thinking a tour of Boeing, and drinking insane amounts of coffee.:)
I am saving the Pike place market, and the chocolate factory tour for her and I to do together.

So what can a guy do while in Seattle.... alone for a few hours?

And don't say massage parlors! I have all my money saved for those while in Ca. later next month! ;);)

There is a good number of things to do.

I personally love the museum of Flight at Boeing field. You have the Space Center area. Depending on time a drive to Ranier or St. Helen's. Ferry ride. Seattle Art museum (SAM) Seattle Aquarium. Underground tour, safe co field tour (that is fun) or the Qwest Stadium Tour. Couple of nice golf courses in the area the city runs.

It will depend on time you have and what you like.

I like the Museum of Flight though if you just have an afternoon or the Space needle though it is not going to take as much time as the MOF

What Scott said ... all great suggestions.

You mentioned the Boeing Tour - it is pretty phenomenal, but you will need to factor in travel time to Everett and back. 30-40 minutes each way with no traffic; could be considerably worse with traffic (traffic to Everett will be bad after about 2:30 p.m., traffic from Everett will be bad till about 9:30 a.m.). Double-check tour times and to make sure they're doing it before you head up there, too.

The Underground Tour in Pioneer Square is really fun and an unusual way to get a dose of Seattle history.

Or, you could bring a good coat with a hood, leave the car parked at the hotel, and just wander around.

If you're talking about the chocolate factory tour out in Fremont, be sure you visit the other great Fremont attractions like the troll, and Lenin. ;)

I'm glad you said that!
I almost forget to pack a knit cap!

Thanks Scott, and NWFlyer!

What Scott said. The Museum of Flight is close to downtown and is time well spent. The Science Center seemed a little too kid-oriented the last time I was there, but that was better than a decade ago. Still, I've had fun every time I've been there. If you're into music, you could also do the Experience Music Project. The Space Needle, Science Center, and EMP are all in the Seattle Center complex and within easy walking distance of each other. I'd go with the MOF as a first option and Seattle Center as a second.

What the others said; plus, if you're downtown, you can take the ferry to Winslow (Bainbridge Island), though it's going to be unpleasant this time of year.

If you're into Asian stuff, you can go to the International District and visit Uwjimaya, the big Asian market.

If you're into pop culture you can visit the gravesites of Bruce and Brandon Lee; there's also the Hendrix stuff aside from the EMP.

The University District is interesting as well.

And of course there's always the Space Needle. :S Seattle Center has a decent food court.

There's a Cold War era Russian Diesel submarine at the waterfront you can tour, and Ye Olde Curiosity Shoppe is worth a look.

If you're into music, try Lark in the Morning. They've got all kinds of weird instruments from around the world that you can buy, or just play around with.

This is like a comprehensive list of the stuff we used to do when we'd skip school :D Except go on the underground tour, lived here for 20 years and never done it.

Me neither, though the Unit, Spousal, 1 ea has done it and said it was fun. :S

Go to Starbucks ;) and get a coffee.

We locals don't even go to Starbucks when we're in Seattle.

Though you CAN go to the very first Starbucks in Pike Place Market. Which is kind of worth a look to see where the Evil Empire was hatched.

And the Starbucks logo sign there actually has boobies. Or at least it used to.

The Boeing tour in Everett is pretty cool at the Future of Flight in the biggest building in the world... on one side of the balcony you can see the 777 Production line... the other side is the 787 line...2 of them in there right now. The Museum of flight restoration center is VERY cool.. its also at Paine Field just off 100th and Airport Rd.. its free unless you want to donate a few bucks at the door.
They have a Hellcat in restoration.. and F-7 and F-8.. Boeing 727 Number 1.. and C model BOAC Comet... an AN-2.. a UH-21 Flying Banana...well you get the idea.

Well, if I was in Seattle for a day, I would hang out with NWFlyer, she's one cool chick. :P

I would, too, but he came on a day where she has to be at work.
