Everyone that I know who has switched to an aftermarket CAI has lost mpg's, not gained them. Slightly more power for slightly less economy seems like a normal trade-off. Personally, I drive a Toyota pickup truck, so stock includes a CAI. Blues, Dave"I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" (drink Mountain Dew)
jm951 0 #27 November 16, 2007 In the majority of cases, a free flowing intake will result in slightly higher mpg, BUT, if it's making a really cool sound with more throttle input, expect any gains to go away. Personally, I'd stick with a stock system with a K&N filter on a daily driver.

There's a trade-off to everything....more power=less mpg, more power also generally results in less reliability. Even a small mod like you're talking about, has a downside. The days of really doing much in the way of modification, are over. With computer controls, the various sensors and all the emission controls being so sensitive and with such narrow tolerances, you can mod your way into a world of crap....and wasted money. Most engines are created to produce a maximum balance of power, reliability and mileage, while producing the least emissions. If you have emission inspections, you gotta' be careful what you do."T'was ever thus."
Broke 0 #29 November 17, 2007 YOu know a lot of people don't really notice that the number one thing that will increase mpg is driving habits. Next with new intake and exaust you will gain mpg as well as well am make more power. However when you start adding superchargers, turbos, and cams that is what kills mpg although it increases HP more than a intake and exaust ever willDivot your source for all things Hillbilly.
