Recommended Posts

Evryone at work right now is trying to figure out this ridde... I just gave up.... See if you can figure it out, but don't post the answer.

--------------------------

There are 5 houses in 5 different colors. In each house lives a person with a different nationality. The 5 owners drink a certain type of beverage, smoke a certain brand of cigar, and keep a certain pet. No owners have the same pet, smoke the same brand of cigar, or drink the same beverage.

Somebody owns a fish. The question is: who?

Hints:

The Brit lives in the red house.
The Swede keeps dogs as pets.
The Dane drinks tea.
The green house is on the left and next to the white house.
The green homeowner drinks coffee.
The person who smokes Pall Mall rears birds.
The owner of the yellow house smokes Dunhill.
The man living in the center house drinks milk.
The Norwegian lives in the first house.
The man who smokes Blends lives next to the one who keeps cats.
The man who keeps the horse lives next to the man who smokes Dunhill.
The owner who smokes Bluemaster drinks beer.
The German smokes Prince.
The Norwegian lives next to the blue house.
The man who smokes Blends has a neighbor who drinks water.

Good Luck

I used a grid.

Sure like to know how your C++ program works. Matrix algebra? PM me if you think a dummy might be able to understand it.

There are enough constraints in the hints. Draw a grid with the 5 houses across the top (columns) and nationality, pet etc. for the rows.

Im just shitting you mate. Einstein made this riddle and he said only 2% of the world would be able to solve this.

A couple of years ago i lived in a flat with a group of guys that did this using C++. I just remember the answer..

However, they did do blogs of it on the internet as they showed all their formulas as it was an easy way a dummie could do it.

If i can find the link i will send it to you.

I find very amuzing that if enstein says only 2% will get it right there is someones whole workforce speniding a day trying to figure it out.

Let me know if you want the link and i will search for it to PM you with.

Thanks. I got the same answer by elimination. It could be done mathematically though. Interesting about Einstein.

I cant find these guys solution, However there is one very similar on the web (sam sort of format). You should have a look at it.. It also goes on about Einstein says that 98% of the world would not be able to solve it.

Cool. They also have a non-computational method like I used.

Link if OP is interested in a hint. It's not an easy puzzle, but there are no tricks involved:
