mamajumps 0 #1 November 20, 2007 ya know as an adult the US Mail RARELY brings anything other than junk or bills, at least thats my story... well today was different, I received my grant letter from school awarding me enough to cover this semester and next! I literally cried! I -am- a -late- in- life- trying- to-figure-out-what-I-wanna-be-when-I-grow-up person... I made an impulsive decision to go back to school this past August, which was difficult alone being a single mom with a full time job. But I have always wanted to be an EMT, so I went for it. Now I graduate in May and its PAID for!!!! This is such a huge stress relief! K' Im gonna go cry again!
Jewels 0 #2 November 20, 2007 What terrific news!!! Congratulations! I'm very happy for you and know that it has to be a tremendous relief. Time to celebrate . . . before all the hard work kicks in. TPM Sister #
grannyinthesky 0 #3 November 20, 2007 Congrats! Going back to school at any time is scary, but as a single parent, it's really tough. I waited until I was in my mid-thirties and a single parent of two before going back to school, so I know how much the financial help means. I will be paying back my student loans with my social security I'm afraid. Oh, well. Education is so worth it. Pat"safety first... and What the hell..... safety second, Too!!! Time to celebrate . . . before all the hard work kicks in. Yeah I need to get the partying in and done and overwith b4 Jan. Next Semester scares the b-jesus out of me! Class is only two nights a week, M-W 6 to 9:30p but away from class, I have to learn and master 40 skills in the lab, do 80 hrs of ride time on an ALS ambulance, 16hrs in the ER and 4 hrs in a nursing home... so class is only 5 months, I can go without sleep that long!!! normiss 897 #15 November 20, 2007 If you get on here in O-county...and you ever rescue me...please take care of the important bits first..reminds me of when I totaled my last bike...had to get the expensive leather jacket off before the EMT's showed up...and then had to debate my injuries with one of them..."you have a dislocated shoulder" I do NOT...I have a broken collar bone... "nooooo....you have a dislocated shoulder" I DO NOT!I didn't....
PsychoBob 0 #16 November 20, 2007 HOORAY! If you're ever up at The Farm look up Blaine (one of the videographers). He's an EMT and he's got some good stories. Hope I never see you at work. enflyt 0 #18 November 20, 2007 That is SO Great! Congratulations to you! You're truly an inspiration to folks like me too... I have no kids to worry about but getting back into the swing of school seems so far out there. I spent 63 weeks of 8 hour days plus study hall 2 nights a week and homework learning Arabic in the military, and it about killed me! But, I think once I finish this last bit of deployment training, I'm going to activate my GI Bill and go back. Problem is.. I still dont know what I wanna be! I love my 'real job' and dont need a degree for it, but, in planning for the future, I guess its not bad to have a back up plan. We'll see! And way to go on the EMT course! My sister, bless her heart, is going to school full time for that, while she works 3 jobs. I dont know how she does it!
