flygirl1 0 #1 November 24, 2007 So the president of our housing development actually tried to have our car towed from the "guest" parking spot (that no one ever parks in) in front of our house even though it had a handicap parking plack up. I had even talked to her and told her we had broken our legs and couldn't walk and we weren't able to clean out our garage for our cars in the next few months. She actually said she couldn't let us park there since it was for guests only and she had already told a permanently handicap man he couldn't park in front of his house!! I'm not sure who her friends are but, none of mine would mind walking a few extra steps so a handicap man didn't have to BTW there is always street parking a few blocks away some times closer. Can you believe some people??? So now we have to crutch a few blocks if there is no parking close by trying to carry stuff while every spot on the street in front of our house sits empty just so someone with a little power can get her rocks off We will get better but, I feel bad for the poor handicap guy. I think I'll go to some of the community meetings when I get better and fight for him to get the right to park there. Sorry rant over I just had to vent!Fly like a girl

I'm not sure how these things work either but, when I'm feeling better I think I'm going to go to the meetings and find out. I don't think have time to join the board but, I'll look in to it maybe I can do something. Yeah I'm learning that now Brian has had the house for a while now and this is the only complaint I've had so far but, if we ever move it will not be to another place with a Homeowners' Associations. AggieDave 6 #6 November 25, 2007 HOAs can be a good thing. It all depends on the HOA's constitution. We have one where we live that has certain restrictions on things like decorations and rental property which all in all is a good thing, especially how its all worded and implemented. However, there are some serious horror stories involved with other HOAs. I got a copy of the contract, read it and talked to quite a few residents of the subdivision before signing on our house. Get a copy of the constitution and read it. Also check with your city's code enforcement and read your city's codes. If the HOA is in violation (not a stricter version) of a city code, then you might have a leg to stand on. Otherwise check into what it takes to change your HOAs rules and act on it.--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline." LisaM 0 #8 November 25, 2007 Yeah, HOAs suck. We had a board member try to tow our portable 16x12x8 storage unit because he says we were told we were only allowed to keep it there for a week. My husband got quite sarcastic with him. After we told him we were never notified, my husband went marching up to our front door and rang the doorbell and said "how hard was that"? ~ Lisa ~ Do you Rigminder? freefalle 0 #14 November 25, 2007 Get a temp. hadicapped permit from the dr and then tell her that you are going to sue the HOA for refusing to provide you with a handicapped spot close to your home. Your other is your home on city street? Your other option is to contact the city and request them to put a handicapped spot on the city street infront of your home. Even if you live in a subdivision, the streets are still property of the city and they have the option to put handicapped spots where they deem it necessary. For the most part they do a good job. We live on an old winery and they keep part of the old vineyard and the old winery building in great shape. They also keep up the front of everyones hous which have beautiful rosebushes and the park with a big garden and walking paths. This is really the first complaint I've had with them I'm going to get a copy of their constitution and read it. I don't think I have the energy to fight it now but, I'll look in to doing what I can to help the older man when I get a chance.Fly like a girl

I'd crutch up to her door and tell her how ridiculous I thought she was being. She never even came to notify us in person. She just wrote us fake tickets and when I called her, her "associate" told me she was told to tell me I cant park there and I need to clean out my garage so I can park in there(on crutches??? come on!) then she tried to to have our car towed early on a saturday morning. Luckily Brian herd it and rushed out in time to stop the tow truckFly like a girl

He he I actually envision her as a house wife with nothing better to do while her husband is at work and has no power over anything else in her life so she is exploiting the little she has now When we rushed out to stop the tow truck a well dressed lady was sitting in a green jaguar parked 100ft away just watching us and when Brian talked the driver in to letting him move the car she drove away. I have seen her bossing around the gardeners since then so I think she is the one in charge.Fly like a girl
