PLFXpert 0 #1 November 28, 2007 So, I use FedEx a LOT. And I generally love them. However, often enough something will originate in the same town to which it is to be delivered. I.e. I just don't want to effing drive there myself. The tracking will always show: "Picked up. X location. At desk sort facility Xa location. Estimated delivery date four days from now. In transit. At desk sort facility Z location (8 hours from X location.) In transit back to X location." WTF?Paint me in a corner, but my color comes back.
Icon134 0 #2 November 28, 2007 because its actually more efficient (and less expensive) to manage all packages through a few central sorting facilities then to just carry it across town. I believe that's right... and personally I prefer UPS over Fedex though they did redeem themselves somewhat the last time they delivered a package to me... PLFXpert 0 #3 November 28, 2007 Hmmm. I'm pretty sure my X location is such a central sorting facility.Even so, I haven't done the math so I'm just taking your word that it is in fact less expensive & more efficient. I send/receive a LOT of FedEx and it boggles my mind when two things coming to me will be sitting at X location and I'll receive one before 8:30 a.m. that day (b/c it was sent for first delivery) and the other not until after 3 p.m. that day (b/c it was sent standard). The logistics can be a bit confusing. I mean, if both arrive at point X at the same time according to tracking, why do they need to be delivered by different couriers? The only sense I can make is they sort the priorities first. But, according to tracking it seems like they all leave the next morning at the same time and read "in transit" so they were obviously sorted w/in the same time frame. Whatever. I'm just pissed I don't have my package yet. Paint me in a corner, but my color comes back.
PLFXpert 0 #4 November 28, 2007 I definitely prefer FedEx. Don't even talk to me DHL. They're morons. Paint me in a corner, but my color comes back.
popsjumper 2 #5 November 29, 2007 It's a marketing ploy. Look at it this way... If you sent a pkg through them and it took only 30 minutes to deliver, you'd be saying to yourself, "Self, you could have done that much cheaper." You'd deliver it yourself and they would be out the $$$. OTOH, since you now know it takes 3 days to deliver across town, hell, who wants to go to all THAT trouble? Just send it FedEx! See how it works? My reality and yours are quite different. I think we're all Bozos on this bus. Falcon5232, SCS8170, SCSA353, POPS9398, DS239
eeneR 3 #6 November 29, 2007 FedEX uses the hub and spoke method for shipping. Here is some info on hub and spoke, there is a ton more out there in google land. And, if I remember right... wasn't that how the whole thing started and the Professor told the student (CEO of FedEX), "It wiould never work." I _think_ he got a low grade on the paper too?Nobody has time to listen; because they're desperately chasing the need of being heard.

PLFXpert 0 #12 November 29, 2007 Quote why doesn't anyone use USPS? B/c FedEx/Kinkos is more convenient. And if you ship enough the rates are comparable if not less. I can overnight a package for delivery before 8:30 a.m. for $8.I keep a bunch of FedEx shipping packs in my office, print labels online and just make a run to the nearest FedEx drop box. No lines! The USPS has lines depending on what time you go. I like to go whenever the hell I want to--particularly when I'm craving an iced soy chai latte'.Oh, and you can buy a roll of 100 stamps at Costco right there in the checkout line for .25 less than the USPS. And since I bought them at Costco, I get double-points on my AMEX rewards, vs. regular ole' points for shopping at the USPS.Paint me in a corner, but my color comes back.
