why shold they shut up about being undefeated? they are the only team in the nation to go out and beat every opponent they face. that's something to brag about. i know, i know, they had a weak schedule and the wac isn't a real conference in the eyes of the bcs in-crowd, but they can only beat who they play. its pretty shitty that these guys can go out and be successful every time they hit the field but never be given the chance to compete for the championship. play-offs would remedy this.

if they want a chance at the big game they have to play a big game schedule

they can only play a big game schedule if big teams agree to play them. they don't. my point is that every team in the division should have a shot at the top spot. if certain teams or certain conferences have no chance at being number 1, they shouldn't be allowed in the division at all.

We should know from last season's Boise State season and bowl game not to under estate some of these WAC teams. So Georgia would be mistaken to take Hawaii lightly (haha though I am expecting the Bulldogs to win). But maybe Hawaii should look into playing some early season top Pac-10 teams in non-conference play. If they can beat a USC or Arizona State team, maybe they would earn some more respect and rank higher. The lesser ranked schools need to seek tougher schedules where they can steal some wins (and of course can they even steal the wins) and it likely would take years of success for them to gain more respect. No school can come out of nowhere in NCAA play on a given season and gain instant recognition without winning year after year.

There may be too much emphasis on the national championship game when it's debatable in certain years if the best two teams are even matched up. We know 2001 was one of those years where the top 2 teams did not meet when the marbles were on the line. This season there does appears to be a good matchup. LSU is the best of the SEC and while Ohio State does not have to play a conference championship game, they are the best in another tough conference.

i'm sure hawaii would like to play some top pac-10 teams, but they would likely get the same answer as boise state did. they were either told no or they were told "you come to us, but we won't come to you in return". another option is if the pac-10 was changed to the pac-12 and the rest of the wac was moved out of the division. something similar could be done with mountain west. That way the bcs could keep there money makng machine rolling while giving every team a shot at the title.
