ifall 0 #1 December 6, 2007 Anyone taken Chantix to try to help them quit smoking before? I started taking this yesterday and was just curious as to your experience with it. I am aware of the side affects but wondered how successful it has been for anyone on here who's taken it. Thanks!
peregrinerose 0 #2 December 6, 2007 PM Skydivingchad on here. He used it to quit. He was on it for a couple of months, hasn't smoked since starting it about 6 months ago, maybe 4 months with neither Chantix nor smoking. His only side effect was very weird and vivid dreams. He can give you more information though. Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda
Shepp 0 #3 December 6, 2007 First, CONGRATULATIONS on making the choice to quit!!! I took Chantix last year, as did a friend of mine. It's fantastic - it really does work, and all you have to do is stick to your doses. You'll find that in about 3 or 4 days, you'll start losing your interest in smoking. With the physical cravings taken care of, it is much easier to deal with the mental temptations. If you find the initial course of medication works for you, they make a 'maintenance' pack that runs another 12 weeks. I experienced a moderate amount of nausea for about an hour after taking the pill, but I find eating about 30 minutes beforehand really helped a lot. GOOD LUCK! Stick with it! Glitch 0 #4 December 6, 2007 Ssshhh.... don't tell anyone, but I'm taking it. Haven't been totally successful so far, but working on it. I didn't feel 'anything' for a while, but I set my date and am doing my best. I've found that, for me at least, the biggest hurdle is just NOT buying the damn things. If I have em, I smoke em... but don't miss em at all if they're absent (gotta break the habit of buy'n em). I had some pretty wild mood swings (according to my wifey) after being on it for a couple of weeks but that has gone away. Oh... and the 'vivid' dream thingy that I was warned about ...very fucking cool and way more intense that I ever expected (hope ye got a sig other handy when ya wake up!!!) Randomly f'n thingies up since before I was born...
ifall 0 #5 December 6, 2007 Thanks for the info. This is great to hear nothing but good results from taking it to help quit. I've heard about the vivid dreams but wasn't sure what exactly they meant by "vivid". I have just started dating someone who doesn't smoke and when I'm around her I don't have a problem with not smoking (ok, I do crave it a little) but it sounds like maybe I should be spending the night with her more often. I had to be honest with myself and throw away every lighter, ashtray, and book of matches in my house. I also removed the pop-in part of the cigarette lighter and the ashtray in my car. Did you sign up for Get Quit? It is only somewhat helpful info-wise, but I found getting the daily encouragement email nice - just a little reminder of why I had decided to quit and what I was hoping to accomplish, along with some tips. It also has a little ticker that tells you how many days you have been quit and how much $$ you've saved not buying cigs. That was an eye-opener for me!!Experience is a hard teacher because she gives the test first, the lesson afterward. Accidents don't just happen. They must be carelessly planned. I was thinking about putting the money I save aside to see how quickly it builds up.Anyone taking it that has experienced sleep walking? I sleep walk maybe a couple or three times in a year so I was wondering if Chantix may affect that and cause it to occur more often. Luckily the times I've gone sleep walking I usually just end up on the floor downstairs with my dogs.
Skootz 0 #8 December 6, 2007 I took Chantix and it is the best thing ever. The first week after not smoking was a bit rough, but nothing like the other times I tried to quit. I sleep walk as well. But it didn't increase with the meds. Good luck and if you fall off the wagon just get back on.
skydivingchad 0 #9 December 6, 2007 PM sent I did forget about the sickness to my stomach after taking it. I just had to be sure to eat some thing when I toke the pill. Sometimes you're the windshield, sometimes you're the bug. Pelt Head #
