Traveling with Two Rigs

Recommended Posts

I've never traveled with two rigs before. When I travel with one, it goes into a soft bag that I wear like a bookbag over my shoulders.

I can't carry two rigs on the airplane, so I'll have to check one. What would I put it in? I wouldn't want to put it something soft because I'm afraid it would be damaged. Do they make hard suitcase-like containers for rigs?

What do you do when traveling with two rigs?

I travel frequently with multiple rigs. Rigs are pretty durable when they are all packed up. I have a big roll-a-board that holds two rigs. It's soft. I just pack my clothes and stuff in between.

You may want to put a tag right on the inside that says something like:

"ATTN TSA: This bag contains parachuting equipment. This equipment is a life saving devise. Tampering or damage to this equipment could result in serious injury or death to the user. If you have any questions, please page: JEN XXXXX or call me on my cell: XXXXXXXX.

Thank you for your consideration in this serious matter. I appreciate your efforts."

You have a lot of faith that they can read English or even care enough to read it, don't you?

Sorry, I meant it to be a light-hearted response. Please forgive me for offending you.

darnknit thinks that what I wrote in response to your post was critical of me. Please forgive me if you took it take way. That was not my intention.

I appreciate the time you took to write that. The words you used were excellent. I intend to print them off and include it with all of my rigs when I travel. I think it would be good if the screeners at the security checkpoints would read it. I've had to do some fancy explanations in the past. Using your words would give them a better understanding of what they are handling.

Thank you,

Jennifer

Baggage handling...This is one area where customer service has suffered a noticeable decline. Most travelers have become accustomed to crossing their fingers at the baggage claim, and with reason. The number of mishandled bags, which means bags that are lost, damaged, delayed or pilfered -- yes, pilfered -- has nearly doubled in the past three years.

Of the major carriers, Delta has more mishandled baggage reports per 1,000 passengers than any other airline, according to DOT, while United has a good track record, and Hawaiian, again, scores the best -- although still not perfect.

That's one of the last services that is not automated, explained Aram Gesar editor of AirGuide Magazine and AirGuide Online. "That's where consumers will feel the strain."

Gesar, who said fliers should expect to face even more problems with their bags to come, offers this tip to Jumpers: Overnight your gear to your destination.

If you deeply distrust baggage handlers, try "combat loading."
Spread your most valuable possessions between two or three bags, so that losing any one bag will not ground you.
For example, put rig "A" and one jumpsuit in suitcase "A."
Then put your second rig and another jump suit in suitcase "B."
Carry your most difficult-to-replace items (i.e. Spandex bootie suit) in a carry-on bag.
