ACMESkydiver 0 #1 December 1, 2007 Heidi-hi!! No report last week...SORRY! I was out of town on vacation and mommy and daddy only have dial-up internet (no shit, it really does still exist in some places! ) Here's my happy news: as of THIS MORNING, I FINALLY hit that damn milestone!!!! 30 pounds off!! That was no small feat after partaking in the 2nd & 4th deadly sins for 4 days straight...gluttony and sloth both. BUT I'M DOING GREAT NOW!! Still working out daily (need to get today's in! I'm suited up for it! How about you?!~Jaye Do not believe that possibly you can escape the reward of your action.
MrFreefall383 0 #2 December 1, 2007 Congrats on the milestone! Good work! I've been doing regular swims as usual, been running 3 miles a few times a week again, did 300 pushups, 300 situps, 200 arm/leg lifts, and 200 reverse pushups this morning, and I'm doing a swim and a run tomorrow, along with some pullups to push my upper body that little bit extra."If at first you don't succeed... well, so much for skydiving." - aviation cliche
madhatter 0 #3 December 1, 2007 What a way to end a compliment. Now the rest of us lazy asses feel compelled to exercise. As Garfield said Exercise is 10% physical & 90% mental. I'll work on the other 10% tomorrowCongrats ACME! A VERY MERRY UNBIRTHDAY TO YOU!!! D.S #
MrFreefall383 0 #4 December 1, 2007 Lazy asses should feel compelled to exercise. It's good for you, and you know it as well as I do. And yes, it is 90% mental, and most people have about 80% mental capacity total. Can't give what you don't have, so you build up your mental toughness, then it's not so much of a problem. Swam a little over 2000m this morning, some with fins and goggles, some with full gear, some anaerobic conditioning, and some kick development. Came back and have done two sets of 10 pullups already, shooting for at least 50 on the day, and a 2-3 mile run."If at first you don't succeed... well, so much for skydiving." - aviation cliche
tigra 0 #5 December 1, 2007 Still hovering around the same weight, still hitting the gym on average 4 times per week, mixing the cardio with strength training. I worked with my trainer on Wednesday and he did one of those "body age" assessments. Lets just say I was hoping for better results BUT it gives me an idea where I need/ want to go. I can only imagine what the results would have been a year ago! doh! I've come a long way, but I still have a way to go! A question for the experts out there .......... Lately, I've been noticing a little knee pain and soreness while I'm working out. I've never really injured my knees or had problems with them before. I'm thinking if arthritis is going to kick in, it would start in my ankles that I really did damage. I did a little research- one site says if your quad muscles are significantly stronger than your hamstrings, that can cause an imbalance which leads to knee pain. True? Because I think I do tend to work my quads harder and better than I do my hamstrings, especially when I am working out on my own. (bad habit, but I tend to go for the machines and exercises that I "like" and feel comfortable with........) Any suggestions to improve the strength and flexibilty of my hamstrings and knees in general? I'm not looking for huge muscles, just toned and strong. For $$ reasons, I'm trying to limit my sessions with my trainer to once a week and do the rest on my own.
MrFreefall383 0 #6 December 1, 2007 Got a choice today. Either I run this afternoon in addition to my swim, or I wait till tomorrow morning and run in the snow. Snow running is kind of annoying if there's any accumulation, but there's not supposed to be much with this storm, and at 6 in the morning when I'm out on the track, there should be none. It's a risk though, can't guarantee the snow will hold off until after my run. On the other hand, if I push myself too hard today, I won't be working out again until Monday for sure."If at first you don't succeed... well, so much for skydiving." - aviation cliche

MrFreefall383 0 #11 December 2, 2007 Right, so couldn't run yesterday even if I wanted to. Told my parents I planned on getting in a run in the afternoon, but of course they had a dozen chores for me, reasons to keep me out of the house and off the couch relaxing until the run. So to hell with running yesterday. Got up this morning, my head was pounding, slept in another 10 minutes, then got up, said screw it, and went to the track. It was snowing lightly as I was leaving the driveway, but nothing sticking. Got up to the track, only light accumulation. By the time I was into my first half mile, it was snowing hard, and by 1 mile, I couldn't see jack shit, a thick coating on the ground, and every inch of my front had a covering of ice over it. Eyebrows, eyelashes, all over my face and neck, my shirt was covered in it, and my hands damn near froze off. But I ran my 3 miles in 23:50, almost a minute and a half faster than my last run a few days ago without snow."If at first you don't succeed... well, so much for skydiving." - aviation cliche
ACMESkydiver 0 #12 December 3, 2007 Hope your headache went away! I go one way or the other when I workout with a headache -it's either gone by the end, or disabling. Our snow is melting over here. It rained all day... ~Jaye Do not believe that possibly you can escape the reward of your action.
MrFreefall383 0 #13 December 3, 2007 Yeah, headache was gone in a few minutes when I realized how bloody cold it was. Couldn't focus on the headache, focused instead on trying not to let my fingers get frostbite. As for the snow, most of it's gone around here too. No rain, it just warmed up slightly, and most just slowly melted. We might get more in a couple days, but not sure yet. Swam this morning, and it went like shit. Definitely one of my many off days. Still accomplished some good things, but not as much as I was hoping for. Part of it was my right arm was hurting like hell from pullups, so I couldn't quite get it to perform at its peak."If at first you don't succeed... well, so much for skydiving." - aviation cliche
MrFreefall383 0 #14 December 5, 2007 Took a day off today, and I'm glad I did. Restored some of the energy I've lost, and tomorrow should be a better swim day. And the recruiter got back to me today, said my waiver was approved for the pulse-related issue I had when I first took the CG medical, and I'm scheduled to resolve the last remaining issue next Tuesday, then I get to figure out some final questions, sign my contract, and figure out when I ship out."If at first you don't succeed... well, so much for skydiving." - aviation cliche
ladydyver 0 #15 December 5, 2007 CONGRATS!!!! I know, you are wondering what I am doing posting when I am in Bonaire scuba diving.....what do ya know, they have wireless access and I brought my computer to download pics on.....so........here is what I have been doing I slacked off all of last week due to a nasty cold...and it was a nasty bugger, probably the worse one I have had in a couple of years. I did take a walk on thursday before we left. Since I have been down here I have been doing 2-3 dives a day.....also went on a 4-5 mile walk today. Doc was with me cheering me on. I was down 11 lbs before I left.....we will see how good/bad I have been on vacation. ACMESkydiver 0 #17 December 5, 2007 Glad you're feeling better...especially if you're scuba diving! I've only been diving twice...Jamaica and the Bahamas. MrFreefall383 0 #18 December 5, 2007 Went for a swim today after my day off, really pushed myself hard. Did my first 500m in just a scratch over 8 minutes, right where I should be. Did another 1000m of kick development, then another 500m with fins and snorkel in about 8 minutes. My legs were screaming by 1000m, but BFD, still completed 2000m. Came home after work today, and did 400 situps (hurting by 300) and 400 reverse pushups (hurting by 200). Tomorrow's a fun run day, gonna hit the track for 3 miles and jumping lunges until it hurts, then a few more jumping lunges."If at first you don't succeed... well, so much for skydiving." - aviation cliche
ACMESkydiver 0 #19 December 6, 2007 -What are reverse push ups?~Jaye Do not believe that possibly you can escape the reward of your action.
MrFreefall383 0 #20 December 6, 2007 Reverse pushups are a Stew Smith favorite. You lay on your belly like you would if you were starting a pushup, hands on the floor roughly shoulder width from each other, and instead of pushing your body off the ground, lift your hands off the ground, pushing your shoulder blades together. Really works your upper back. As for today, I did a 3 mile run in about 24 minutes, then did two sets of 20 jumping lunges per leg, despite the pain after the first set of 20. Tonight I'm going to do a bunch of flutterkicks, and a bunch more arm/leg lifts."If at first you don't succeed... well, so much for skydiving." - aviation cliche
MrFreefall383 0 #21 December 6, 2007 OK, another small update. I did complete what I said I would, 500 flutterkicks and 400 arm/leg lifts. Tomorrow's another swimming day, and I'll tack on some pushups and pullups in the evening to build my upperbody a little more."If at first you don't succeed... well, so much for skydiving." - aviation cliche
MrFreefall383 0 #22 December 8, 2007 One more small update to make, since the new thread is not yet available. Swam Friday morning, finally figured out how not to choke off my oxygen when using the snorkel, so I flew through my 500m with the snorkel on. Did it in something like 7:10. More kick development and anaerobic conditioning, and did 300 pushups when I got home from work. Swam again this morning, and despite having pulled a small muscle in my right upper back, and everything else being sore, I still swam a faster 500m, completed in 6:50. Getting below the 7 minute mark with the gear swim is a first, so it's got my ego pumped up even more... as if that was possible. Anyway, I'll probably do a bunch of ab work later, and running tomorrow, so we'll see how all that goes."If at first you don't succeed... well, so much for skydiving." - aviation cliche
psipike02 0 #23 December 8, 2007 Fell off a bit with cardio for about a month because someone stole my iPod and going to the gym w/o my iPod is incredibly difficult as i do everything to music....especially working out. BUT, i stayed with the gym part of it at least. Work has also gotten way busier, but i've switched my workouts to the afternoon now instead of the morning because of a switch-up in the work schedule. However, my strength has started to increase in a much greater proportion, particularly in the areas of my chest, lats, traps, and upper back. I'm squatting about 320 lbs right now as well too...which isn't much but a step up from where I was. I also bought a brand new iPod classic yesterday and will be starting back with cardio tomorrow I dont trust the scales at my gym anymore as they give me a different weight everytime I go. Ranging from 242 lbs to 265 lbs. It fluctuates way too much for my taste and so don't even rely on it anymore, which I feel is a good thing. I've also gotten compliments from friends who haven't seen me in a while about how much bigger I've gotten since the last time....and from girls as well. My shirts and polos look awesome on me and my chest is finally getting to where I want it to be....with my workout plan in place, and me going on spring break with my friends again this year (yes I am still going on spring break w/ my friends from college), that is more motivation for me to look my best... With my iPod, it should be way easier too Puttin' some stank on it. ----Hellfish #707----
