gonzalesna 1 #26 December 11, 2007 The typical choke for this is a blood choke. If done properly, a person will pass out between 5 and 15 seconds. However, one must take care because it can take as little as 12 to 20 seconds to kill someone. The choke is performed by blocking the blood circulation that travels along the sides of the neck through the carotid arteries. This cuts off the blood supply to the brain, hence the short time required to make one pass out or kill them. Once blood is resupplied to the brain, a person can recover in as little as 10 seconds. I've used choking techniques in fights twice. The first was an airway choke, bloking my aggressor's airway by squeezing his trachea. It can take several minutes to make one's opponent pass out via an air choke. Needless to say, it becomes very tiring. I did not succeed in making my opponent pass out during the air choke. The second use in my experience of chokes during fights was a blood choke. I performed the technique properly and my opponent passed out in about 7 seconds. My opponent was much taller and stockier than myself, so I was lucky to get the hold. He had a good 60 to 70 pounds on me. In a fight, it can be a very helpful tool, but again, it takes very little time to kill so great care must be taken so as not to cut off the blood supply too long.Some people refrain from beating a dead horse. I generally takes about 10 sec. before I can feel myself to start graying out. Obviously I have to be real careful backing the car up.
