wildcard451 0 #1 December 15, 2007 Has anyone tried this as a language software? I am in dire need of learning spanish, and wanna get a grip fairly quickly. If you have, i'd appreciate pros/cons. If not then what has worked for you all in the past?
shropshire 0 #2 December 15, 2007 I've not used Rosetta Stone... but am leaning Spanish using a combination of different sources (this works for me because, it stops me getting bored). I use :- Michael Thomas, Teach Yourself (I have a couple of different ones... Instant Spanish & All Round Confidence) Spanish for Dummies!!! (.)Y(.) jellob 0 #3 December 15, 2007 I used it for German. I took the language in high school, but had forgotten most of it. However, I think some it came back once I began using the program. It is a great system, I think. They offer a money back guarantee (at least they did when I bought it) and often have special offers which include free shipping and a headset (for the spoken language component). Major con is the price. Not terribly sure how it compares with other systems, but I thought $250 was a bit steep. I may have an email offer in my trash file, if you want me to look - could PM you the info if interested.
AggieDave 6 #4 December 15, 2007 I've been using it off and on to learn better Spanish. Its a great system. If I would be more studious I would speak better Spanish using this system, but I use it for a couple of days then lay off for a month, etc. All in all, though, its the best I've used so far. Much better then the college classes I took and much better then the other CDs and books I've tried using.--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline." tigra 0 #6 December 15, 2007 How does it work with grammar? I find my vocabulary and pronuciation are halfway decent, but my grammar sucks. Specifically, I have a really hard time with all the different verb tenses.
BGill 0 #7 December 15, 2007 i'm currently using it to learn Arabic (even though i've been too busy over the last 2 months so i haven't been up to date on it). it's a really easy to use software that teaches the language through immersion, not translation, so you learn the language kind of like how a child naturally learns their language growing up. all the govt agencies, fortune 500 companies, etc etc use it since its one of the best out there. expensive, but worth it IMO. depending on how much spanish you need to learn, a lot of libraries offer free rosetta stone online lessons. this would only be 30 lessons or so, so its not nearly as much as you'd get from buying Spanish Level 1, but it's a free alternative if you only need to learn some and not become fluent. if you are going to purchase, there is a 10% off deal running now: clicky
AggieDave 6 #8 December 15, 2007 It does teach you the genders and tenses in the grammar, but not in the traditional sense with all the memorization of rules. It teaches you slowly, like a kid watching children's educational television. So you do learn it, but in such a manner where you're not having to think about the structure and the gender of the noun, but in such a way that it makes sense.--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline." tigra 0 #10 December 15, 2007 Gracias! It something I've been thinking about for awhile. A few years ago, I took some classes, but with a job change, the location is no longer convenient and the classes were pretty expensive as well.

woodpecker 0 #12 December 15, 2007 You'll be happy with it. I used it for japanese and to brush up on my German. Great program and very simple to use/learn from.
