skydvr808 0 #1 December 17, 2007 I received a notice in the mail from a US District Court Settlement administrator which claims I am eligible for an estimated 1-3% of all foreign purchases on VISA/Mastercard. I'm not sure if it's legit, but I want to look for the case and read the settlement. Since it's a federal court, I thought there would be an easy way to do this, but I was wrong. Has anyone else received this notice? Does anyone know how to look up a case in a Federal District court?

PhreeZone 20 #5 December 17, 2007 I think you still have to provide proof you made an ATM withdrawl overseas on your credit card. I got the same notice and tossed it. Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com

Has anyone else received this notice? Does anyone know how to look up a case in a Federal District court? Merry Xmas the notice you got maybe legitThere really is a class action suite against the CC companies to recoup (after lawyers fees) money that you were overcharged due to some book keeping errors that the CC commited When we used our CC outside the US. To read the whole mumbo jumbo you can google it. As inicated in the statement you may have recieved you can fill out the short form in the 4 page mailing package or on the net and get $25 from the CC companies id you used the cards outside the us during the time period indicated. If you hace traveled a lot outside the US and have the records to back up your CC usage than you can go the itemized route to recieve the larger compensation. Not sure of looking up the actual court records but a google search should direct you to lots of press stories about the class action suite. I personally have not traveled outside the country that much and filling out the paperwork wasn't worth my time for $25. Lawyers love filing large class action lawsuits, in spite of having to expend a lot of effort to insure that are injured parties are notified and compensated
skymama 37 #8 December 17, 2007 I got that too and it was mentioned in the newspaper yesterday. There are 3 options to choose from. You only have to provide records for one of the options. She is Da Man, and you better not mess with Da Man, because she will lay some keepdown on you faster than, well, really fast. ~Billvon

The statement you received has the plaintiffs and defendants listed. It was filed in the Southren District of NY. From the http://ccfsettlement.com/ web site you can read the complaint and the use PACER to find the rest of the documents. One change, that has resulted from this case is that your foriegn transactions now have separate fees charged to exchange rates etc on your CC statement. Before, those extra charges were 'hidden' and inflated. That was the basis for the lawsuit. .. Make It Happen Parachute History DiveMaker

It appears that if you choose Option #1, all you have to do is sign and mail the form - without any supporting documentation - and you're virtually certain to receive $25. While they reserve the right to follow-up with a request for more info, sheer quantity probably makes it unlikely they will do so for claimants who choose that Option.
