catfishhunter 2 #28 December 8, 2007 So you'd be ok if I stole the Skydiving Movies.com Logo and made some shirts and made some money off the hard work you guys have put into it? Again if HH is getting a cut none of what I have had to say means shit and frankly it means shit if he doesn't give a shit. Personally I do not think someone profiting off someone elses Time/Money and hard work is ok. But that's me... MAKE EVERY DAY COUNT Life is Short and we never know how long we are going to have. We must live life to the fullest EVERY DAY. Everything we do should have a greater purpose.
pilotdave 0 #29 December 8, 2007 I'd be flattered. Although that logo did take some time... see how the M in movies underlines the rest of it? Yeah, that was kinda tricky... I'd at least hope it would say SkydivingPornMovies.com or something clever. Seriously though, I read recently that Ford was sending nastygrams from their lawyers to anyone selling pictures of ford vehicles (including antiques) that showed the ford logo without paying a licensing fee. That crap kills me. Dave

pilotdave 0 #31 December 8, 2007 So here's a question. Could somebody else modify the dropzone.com logo the same way (but from scratch) and sell those shirts for less? Could he sue?? Dave
bigway 4 #32 December 8, 2007 Quote I get pissed every time I hear about a company suing over stuff like this. Sure, if someone opened Dropzone.net (it's for sale!) and used such a similar logo that a visitor might think that the sites are associated, that would be a problem. But making a perfectly funny joke out of a logo, legal or not, should be encouraged because it's funny! I like those shirts. Dave how about skydivingmovies.cum the shirts look great .Karnage Krew Gear Store .

LouDiamond 1 #40 December 8, 2007 I can assure everyone that HH IS NOT making any money off of this and I am positive that he DOES NOT condone the use of his Copyrighted logo in that manner. Once again a classic example of unscrupulous people in our sport trying to make a buck at someone elses expense."It's just skydiving..additional drama is not required" Some people dream about flying, I live my dream SKYMONKEY PUBLISHING
indyz 1 #41 December 8, 2007 If the shirt is a parody (and the Supreme Court has been very liberal in what it considers parody), then the shirt is perfectly legal and in fact protected under the First Amendment. These shirts have been on sale for a decade and there is nothing Warner Brothers can do about it. Then again, the guy selling them is Canadian. Who knows what their laws are. jtval 0 #42 December 8, 2007 Disclaimer: I don't care about the tshirts but IIRC copyright/parody laws say that if you change the image more than 50% you can use it without paying royalties or permission. Shell666 0 #44 December 8, 2007 QuoteOh brother... It is just a friggin T-shirt. True it is just a shirt, and I think the shirts are funny but I think THIS could be the point catfish is trying to make. It's one thing to parody the logo from a movie studio when you're producing a tshirt with a funny saying, and you're NOT from another movie studio. I think it's completely different when you're selling a tshirt from a SKYDIVING website that is using the logo (albeit, altered in a small way) from ANOTHER skydiving website, that has designed it and has posted information about using said designs. Legalities and semantics aside, it's not a classy thing to do. Well, that and "don't shit in your own backyard" comes to mind. Just my opinion.'Shell

According to the Office of Trademarks and Patents, the words "Freefly and "Free Fly" are not trademarked. Perhaps they were at one time? A title or work/combination of words may not be trademarked when part of common context.

CSpenceFLY 1 #49 December 10, 2007 As cool as those shirts are I would not buy one unless HH has a deal with those people or at least gave his blessing to them which I dought. I'm betting he could sue them if he wanted to but probably not worth the time and money. That's what people like this count on unfortunately.
