normiss 900 #26 December 17, 2007 Quote I noticed that too in my research. I wonder why? Maybe the exhaust wafts back into the car, choking the occupants? Funny...remember the original VW bug heating systems??I thought the Germans specialized in this technology....
AggieDave 6 #27 December 18, 2007 My wife's 2007 VW Rabbit with the same engine gets about 35 on average. I got 35mpg on my trip to CO and back this year and I "motivated" that drive. They're incredibly fun cars to drive and just all around great cars for the money. For $17k you get some serious safety features with a good car. Come on John, you should know atleast about the VW Jetta TDI... --"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline."

That system actually works really well when maintained properly. Usually that part of the exhaust system wasn't maintained properly. Then again there's those of us who simply did/do without the heater boxes because of the diameter of the exhaust going through those heater boxes. Shepp 0 #30 December 18, 2007 QuoteQuote[Amazon] Get the TDI and get 45 MPG Those seem to be rare and hard to find. And the 2007 models don't even seem to list TDI as an engine option. VW suspended production of the Jetta TDI as of late 2006, but they are bringing it back in the 2008 model year. The TDI emissions needed to be cleaned up, so they took two years off to figure it out. mnealtx 0 #31 December 18, 2007 The Scion SB looks to have a huge amount of headroom/legroom. My nephew (roughly Dave's size) had absolutely no problems getting in/out of the back seat. They have the 2.4l auto and get around 33 highway. It's a boxy ugly thing, though...Mike I love you, Shannon and Jim. POPS 9708 , SCR 14706

If I had known you were looking.... I just got rid of a VW Golf TDI. I was getting around 52 mpg with it. Really fun car to drive but I just didn't need it. billvon 3,121 #36 December 18, 2007 >I was very surprised to discover that with only a 2.5L 5-cylinder >gasoline engine, they only get 20 mpg city and 28 mpg highway. That's probably the "new" (more conservative) MPG rating. 2007 was the first year they changed the rating I believe. Supposedly the newer rating will be more accurate.
