Child support

My son turned 18 Oct. I called child support to make sure I would not continue being garnished. They said "Sorry sir, we will continue to take child support until we get around to closing the case which may take some time. When we get around to it you can file papers and (try to) get your money back". WTF?

..another good reason not to let crap get to the stage of garnishment...you lose control. Welcome to the world of bureaucracy.


side note: I did a spell check on bureaucracy...turns out that DZ.com thinks crap and garnishment are spelled wrong....should have typed "shit" and "legalized theft"

I am going to bet that until they determine if he is going to college or not that they will continue to withhold on you. Get a lawyer (I hate saying that) and confirm the laws in the state that the judgement occurred in. Some places require you to pay until they reach 25 I think, as long as they are full time students. And yeah, it's always best to never let the state get involved with making your payments. In Illinois now it is mandatory to make our payments to the courts and then the state distributes it to the primary caretaker.
