Scottish single malt, on the other hand, especially Islay, that's something completely different.

Yes, but I can't find any mood that american whisky would fit. Maybe the "I want to get drunk and I only have a bottle of bourbon!"-mood? , but I've luckily never experienced that.

If I wanted alcohol that didn't taste good, I'd drink vodka, because that gives you less of a headache, and doesn't taste as bad, and you can blend it with things to make it taste better, but american whiskEy tastes raw, strong alcohol, and what's not alcohol taste in it is just unpleasant.

Brown spirits should taste good. Otherwise it's beer or wine for me.

I'm impressed you got Crown Royal on the list. I almost bought a bottle of that this morning in a duty free shop, but grabbed a Buchanan's 18 year single malt instead. Buchanan's or Johnnie Walker Gold's where it's at.
