NWFlyer 2 #1 December 26, 2007 So here I am in the middle of my own "Planes, Trains, and Automobiles." After a great Christmas visit with the family, they drop me off at Roanoke airport last night (Virginia). I go through security, ready to get on my plane to Seattle (connecting through Detroit). There's a plane there, so this is a good sign. Departure time comes and goes and they finally tell us it's been canceled due to mechanical issues. No way to get me to Seattle on any other carrier, and my parents live an hour away, so I take their offer of a hotel room and get rebooked on the first flight out today. Flight leaves on time so all's looking good for me to get at least a half a day of work in... except we get to Detroit and it's fogged in. So they divert us to ... FLINT! I'm one of the "lucky" ones who gets rebooked on one of the flights out of Flint... at least until they cancel that flight, then I'm back on the "bus." Except the "bus" turns out to be a convoy of vans. Ours was falling apart at the seams and our driver seemed determined to get us there as fast as a plane would. So now I just have to see if I can get out of Detroit... eventually."There is only one basic human right, the right to do as you damn well please. And with it comes the only basic human duty, the duty to take the consequences." -P.J. O'Rourke

ACMESkydiver 0 #6 December 26, 2007 I love traveling. I even love delays (on the way HOME, not on the way to vacation! ) ..but that shit has got to get annoying after a while. Could be worse, Krisanne...you could have boarded that plane with mechanical problems! ~Jaye Do not believe that possibly you can escape the reward of your action. micduran 0 #8 December 26, 2007 I fly in and out of Flint whenever I go "home" to MI. It is easier than DTW. They do serve the BEST chili in the world in that dumpy little airport. Good luck getting home.Be patient with the faults of others; they have to be patient with yours.
cocheese 0 #9 December 27, 2007 I would have "saved" you. I live 15 miles from that airport. But you don't have my number.
NWFlyer 2 #10 December 27, 2007 Quote I would have "saved" you. I live 15 miles from that airport. But you don't have my number. Damn, if only I knew... I coulda taken the cheesy taxi back to Detroit. I did get a free ride back down to DTW and a flight back to Seattle, home only three hours later than my originally (re)scheduled flight this morning. Yes, holiday travel sucks, but all things considered, it could have been a lot worse... at least there was room to be re-booked onto later flights.
