New Toy, Now I Need Suggestions

Recommended Posts

Got Shure earphones and a new iPod for Christmas--oh, my. LOVE them. If anyone wants to talk to me today, they'll have to send email because I can't hear *anything* with the new earphones. :)

Problem is, I need some ideas for upbeat music . . . something that's NOT from the 1980s, like the rest of my music. :S What I really like is, heaven help us, stuff like Groban, Bocelli, Harry Connick, Jr., Sinatra, that kind of thing. But I need something NEW (something since the year 2000 is a good start); some kind of change. No "wailing women" genre music, please. If it involves angst, I can do without. Otherwise, I'm open to suggestions. Any ideas for updating my musical selections?

Eh - you miiight like John Mayer's stuff... Dreaming With a BrokeN heart, Daughters, Waiting on the World to Change, No Such Thing

Dave Mathews Band always has cool stuff... Where Are You Going? And my all time fav - Dancing Nancies

Counting Crows - She talks to Angels, Mr. Jones, Accidentally in Love

Jack Johnson - Dreams Be Dreams, Breakdown, Bubbly Toes

Jason Mraz is fantastic - he does a great rendition of Summer Breeze, You and I Both,

Jimmy Eat World - Sweetness (you might not like this, but give it a try ;-))

Robbie Williams - Angels, Feel

I hope that gets you started .... I'm more of a loud, annoying, upbeat kinda music person: The Starting Line, Saliva, Cauterize, System of A Down, The White Stripes, etc.

Merry Christmas!

Cool, I love them too!

I love playing my music really quietly and still being able to hear it. With my Shure ear phones I can visit IKEA on a saturday (this is known as "shopping hell" here in Norway), and still smile and have a good time.

What about trying to get your hands on BIGBANG's new "best of" CD, called "Something Special"? Finally some norwegian music that's NOT depression on tape. Really nice, really singable.

;)

I'm just going to have to work my way down the list! Keep the ideas coming. I appreciate it!!

I haven't heard of Tina Karol by name, but I may have heard of her music. What you're saying sounds kind of familiar. (iTunes doesn't have it--the suggested "Tiny Karl" instead. :D)

Check out Eva Cassidy, she was a blues singer woith an incredible voice. She died in 90 but her voice is just WOW. When my daughter comes home i can ask her to load my Tina Karol CD and then you can upload it, i bought in Russia so you may have to change soime settings to listen but its way cool. My daugter has the 80 gig ipod and she lives with this thing.
So i just broke up with this woman who wasn't even my girlfriend!

Not to worry, most of them sing in english.

But some of them have made very, very depressive albums:

Madrugada: All of their records are great, but it reminds me of lonely, dark, wet, cold norwegian winters.

Minor majority: Wonderful vocal, but lyrics about unhappy love.

Kings of Convenience: really quiet music, but also often about hopelessness and unhappiness. They had a hit some years ago with "I'd rather dance with you". Everybody thought it was funny, but it's really about someone who really, really fails to chat up a girl at a party.

:D

But they're all among my favourites. Especially Madrugada's album "Industrial Silence". But if you don't like depressive music, it may not be your thing:)
