AggieDave 6 #1 December 28, 2007 Anyone else watching the Holiday Bowl? The t.u. Arizona State game? The backwards pass, fumble, t.u. recovery? The ruling on the field, then the re-ruling and then the once again re-ruling. If you missed it watch SportsCenter tonight, it will be talked about and you will see video, I promise. With my DVR I watched and rewatched and rewatched (about a dozen times) the trainer who supposedly touched the ball. I don't see where its obvious that he touched the ball. AZ scored off of that ruling. This will be talked about for many years to come.--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline." CanuckInUSA 0 #2 December 28, 2007 QuoteI don't see where its obvious that he touched the ball. From one of the camera angles I saw, I don't think he touched the ball Dave, he missed it by about an inch. But I have to ask what was he and another 1/2 dozen people doing standing on the playing field while the play was still on? and why did he make the gesture of going down to grab the ball? Clearly the people on the Long Horns sideline were not thinking. Of course no real harm to TX since they lead 28-7 with 4:30 left in the first half. AggieDave 6 #3 December 28, 2007 I think that the sidelines had their head up their ass and thought the play was dead due to an intentional grounding. You can even see a few people on the sidelines making the ref motion for the call. They weren't thinking that it was a backwards pass due to the angle the QB was turned while he was throwing and being tackled. I agree that I don't think the ball was touched. t.u. is up right now, but there's a second half and AZ is a good second half team...--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline." popsjumper 2 #4 December 28, 2007 So where was the band all that time? The refs: I didn't see it, did you Fred? Well, no. I was watching the cheerleaders. Let's go to re-play. Hmmmm, good call Fred! The blonde is special nice! My reality and yours are quite different. I think we're all Bozos on this bus. AggieDave 6 #6 December 28, 2007 I bet that will send a little shockwave through the other BCS teams going to bowl games this year and that there won't be any more sideline infractions.--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline." tfelber 0 #7 December 28, 2007 I don't think he touched it either. I think even if he had the call was ridiculous. I'm for ASU and I still think it was a stupid call. At most the ball should have been ruled dead at the point of contact just as if it had gone out of bounds. It made no difference anyway, but that was a pretty unfair ruling. TrophyHusband 0 #10 December 28, 2007 what the fuck were all of those people doing on the field during play? the funniest thing was the head coach grabbing the kid and throwing him off the field. i wonder if he still has a job. kelpdiver 2 #12 December 28, 2007 QuoteWith my DVR I watched and rewatched and rewatched (about a dozen times) the trainer who supposedly touched the ball. I don't see where its obvious that he touched the ball. AZ scored off of that ruling. This will be talked about for many years to come. It won't be talked about, as ASU managed to continue to find way to choke the game. They really were the #4 team in conference, but they (and SC) benefitted as Cal and Oregon lost their QBs and their BCS stature. Gotta say I loved the PI on that first pick too. The SEC guys were mostly on top of things, but they missed that one. I don't think he touched it, but the fact that he was on the field and close enough for it to be a maybe forces the officials to make this call. If he touched it (akin to Maradonna's hand of god goal), he is cheating to try to ensure the ball didn't go out of bounds and give his team a chance to recover. Given the importance of the situation, any doubt has to go against the team with the non player on the field. What I can't figure out is how it doesn't result in an automatic 1st down. At least the Devils gutted up and made the conversion. The game itself was settled on the next pair of possessions where ASU faltered on its drive, and Mack Whiner Brown faked the punt on his. BillyVance 35 #13 December 28, 2007 I agree... that fuck up won't be talked about for years, except maybe by fans of the two schools that played. How about something that WAS talked about for years? Try the Alabama - Rice 1954 Cotton Bowl game. A Rice player got tackled by an Alabama player who jumped off the bench, saving a sure 95 yard touchdown run, but the officials gave Rice the touchdown anyway. http://www.mmbolding.com/bowls/Cotton_1954.htm"Mediocre people don't like high achievers, and high achievers don't like mediocre people." - SIX TIME National Champion coach Nick Saban
livendive 8 #14 December 28, 2007 Better yet was the Sooner Schooner on the field in the 1985 Orange Bowl...thankfully that worked in UW's favor. However the absolute best isn't even really a contest. The Stanford band on the field in the last 4 seconds of the 1982 Big Game, allowing California to score the winning touchdown with no time left on the clock. From the wikipedia article on "The Play" QuoteTo this day the position of Band Manager (of the Stanford Band) is conferred from one generation to the next with 4 seconds left in the Big Game in commemoration of the play. The thing with the Big 12 is that they're not ranked as high as they should be having had a couple of losses between all the teams. Those were all conference losses in a historically really tough conference. CanuckInUSA 0 #18 December 29, 2007 QuoteThe thing with the Big 12 The Big 12 is much better than the so called experts give them credit for. There is a lot of parity between the teams, which results in a few loses per team. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

The Big 12 was dreadful this year, as seen by Kansas and Mizzou being the top ranked ones prior to the conference title game. (They only had losses in conference because they played weak OOC games) Oklahoma is it, just as the Big 10 had only OSU. Texas slept thru most of the season. A&M is currently tied in their bowl game (huge improvement on last year), but it's Penn State - big fucking deal. The great development this year is the SEC discovered that offenses can be fun. So much more watchable than the past couple years.
