zune vs ipod

Recommended Posts

I have an Ipod. One of my daughters has a Zune.
I hate my Ipod. The software, the battery problems, sometimes it won't turn off, sometimes it won't turn on, there is always a major glitch and it rarely plays or works without big hassles and lots of time consumed. It's just a huge pain in the butt.
My daughter has had only a few mildly frustrating moments with her Zune and she really likes it. They recently came out with a new software adjustment and she hasn't had any frustrating moments since then.

I'm the opposite. I have a Zune and had an iPod. I can't stand the Zune. It's evil to try to get the thing to sync, and the video is nowhere near as good as on the iPod.

Have you updated your Zune recently? I think the video on the Zune is much better. Of course I have the 5th generation Ipod, so that could be it. Maybe the new ones are better.

Hmmm, funny. My ipod has been flawless, and I hate apple.

Same here. My first Ipod died, but that was because I beat the crap out of it. I went to a Nano and have beat the crap out of it and it is still going strong!

Droping mp3 players that have moving hard drives is bad kids, I dont care who makes the unit, it will kill it eventually.

Happy with mine too...

I tend to be a little rough on stuff as well, I got a form fitting hard plastic case for it...and put a couple of packing bands around it as a shock absorber, so far so good.

My son and daughter have a zune and I just bought a new ipod....my son's zune had to be replaced after a year due to a "spontaneous" cracked screen. I got the ipod due to the other amenities that come with it. The zune doesn't have as many and at least here are difficult to find. I haven't had a lot of time to play with the ipod so we will see how it goes, I am not the most computer inclined person.:ph34r::ph34r:

I wouldn't say my iPod has been "flawless" but I haven't had any major issues, and I find iTunes almost too easy to use. I've got a Nano and a 30gb which I bought after I filled my Nano up. I still like the Nano for working out, just because of the size. I will say their support site pretty much sucks and doesn't really address the "won't turn off" issues that come up from time to time. Generally the solution for that is to let the battery completley die down, then try again.

I thought they were flash based? Shows what I know, mine was a gift so I never looked into it much since it hasn't had any problems.

The Nano is flash based, however the regular Ipod is not.

The hard drives are much cheaper than the units themselves, and fairly easy to replace (I'd say less than 10 minutes if it's your first time, more like 2 minutes if you're familiar with that model). Instructions for replacement (and tools, and replacement drives) can be found here.

I think it would be wise to go with a 3erd party. Both Microsoft and Apple are banding together to protect record labels from "piracy" and the latest rounds of garbage coming out make me think that 'piracy' might be defined as copying a CD you purchased into Mp3s for your personal player. A good third party player might be more neutral.
