New dog!

I can't speak for Nightingale, but I'd just guess that it's a pretty public forum in which to share that kind of thing. My mother, for instance, wouldn't share how much she paid for ANYTHING--no matter whether she got it at a bargain or paid twice the going price. Putting it online? It would never happen.

Edited to add:
Maybe there's a good, masculine-sounding butterfly out there that you could name him after.

It's just odd that she didn't have any problem posting about the thousands of dollars she was paying to try and save her cat, but refuses to post how much she bought a dog for.

At any rate - Nightingale: I really was just wondering so I'm not sure why you got snippy. I guess I can understand why you'd want to buy one and not rescue. I wanted to buy a boxer for a long time because I could never find them at shelters. I was lucky enough to find a boxer dedicated rescue and we ended up getting a puppy (1.5) who is wonderful. It's the luck of the draw I guess.

Good luck with your new dog, you'll enjoy him.

I know you're infatuated with him, but I gotta tell ya, he's got a real bad case of halitosis :(

Ew. I think I might've dated someone like that once. The infatuation wasn't enough to overcome the halitosis. :|

There's hope ... we're working on it. He's actually getting to enjoy those Listerine PocketPaks:P

Congrats Nightingale! What a cutie. Dogs are wonderful. For the vet bills, consider a raw foods diet. There is growing evidence that many diseases for animals can be prevented by giving animals raw foods and avoiding commercial dog food. There is a significant study, called the Pottenger Cat study, which demonstrated that the raw foods diet is far superior to a cooked/commercial diet. Read Natural Remidies for Dogs and Cats by Puotinen for more info. Dogs are omnivores and will eat raw veggies as readily as raw meat. Mine are loving the diet and Patty Cake, my 11 year old Aussie Cattle dog, is improving by milestones. PC has had arthritis for years. While on commercial dog food, she can barely walk. When on raw foods, she does wonderfully. The recent snow did not exacerbate her arthritis at all. Good Luck with the Pap.

I'm sure you know this but keep in mind you need to protect a dog that size from predatory animals such as hawks.

And owls. [:/] My sister's little long haired Chihuahua got carried off by one when she let him out for a quick minute before bedtime. :|

Kris...you'll have so much fun with (JoJo) when you get him home! Post pics (or video) of Jones' first impression! I'm sure it will be priceless!

The major thing that you'll find with dogs vs cats is that you can't leave the critter at home with a bowl of food and a litter box over the weekend. You have to take him with you! :P

Have you taken him in for a tooth cleaning?

Oh yeah. My wife actually has better tools than the vet! The last time he visited the vet, she was astonished at how clean his teeth were and even complimented Debbie on her work! His breath, nevertheless, still stinks.

Does she brush his tongue? ;)

I'm getting a dog today. He's a 16 month old papillon. I pick him up tonight. I've never had a dog before. I'm excited!

Good luck with your new pup. I'll be getting a pup in a few weeks.
BTW, two dogs are easier to care for than one dog.

Eeeek! I know exactly what your saying ... we've had a few chickens disappear under very suspicious circumstances. Debbie has a system for determining whether or not foul play (no pun intended! :o) is involved in their disappearance.

If it looks like a pillow exploded in the back yard: most likely a hawk or an owl.

No evidence of foul play: Two possibilities:

1. Aliens - beamed up.
2. Coyote or Fox.

If the chickens have their throats slit and they are lined up in a row all parallel to each other in the chicken coup...well that's an easy one: Mink!

Just for you Chelle:;)

My sister's poodle: $700
My other sister's Akita: $1500
My younger brother has 2 dogs: Soft coated wheaten Terrier; $1800. A Kerry Blue Terrier: $1600.
My older brother: A mutt: $0

I know all those dogs seem politically incorrect (except the mutt), but since they were already born; they deserved a home.:)

True. Today I just picked up a girlfriend for my male Boston Terrier. We have a 11yr old Cocker Spaniel, but he was wearing her out. :D She is already scrappin with him. I took this picture with my cell phone inbetween rounds. :D:P
