Realistic Dreams

Recommended Posts

So lately I wake up in the morning and cannot figure out if what happened in my dreams was real or just a dream. It's become almost a daily occurance that I have to check my cell phone in the morning to see if I sent the texts or had the conversations I'm POSITIVE that I had during the night.

Just the other night I got up at 3AM and started getting ready for work cause I was certain I had just talked to the one guy who was working and he asked me to come in for an emergency. Just as I was about to walk out the door I checked my phone to notice I never got a call from work.

It's just confusing cause in my dreams I'm talking to these people on the phone or texting them while in bed as if I was actually doing it in the middle of the night.

It seems to be happening on a more regular basis. Does this ever happen to anyone else? Or am I just crazy?

I've had realistic dreams before but there's always something just not right to let me know it's a dream. Sometimes it's not very obvious, but it's there.

Well I deffinately don't go to bed at the same time every night.

For example...today, yesterday and Friday I worked 3pm to 11pm. Tomorrow I'm working a double, 3pm to 7am. Tuesday after I get off at 7am I have to be back to work 11pm to 7am. Then Wednesday after I get off at 7am I have to be back in to work 3pm to 11pm. I have Thursday off (as of now). Then Friday I work 7am to 3pm.

This week is a little crazier then normal but at the same time it's very common for me to work different shifts all through out the week. Never really bothered me. I just sleep whenever/wherever I can.

ahh but wait until you have crazy dreams and you talk with those dreams and then think about what it will be like if you are at work and asleep having crazy dreams and talking!
One of my coworkers talks in his sleep and has crazy dreams all the time. since we share a bunk room it is funny and the next day/week we all get a good laugh at his expense!
The only phones involved in our case is the other coworkers and I trying to caputer video of the event to show the coworker the next day.

I have them all the time. Doesn't bother me a bit. I frequently have triple layer dreams ... you know, I'm dreaming that it's a dream and I "wake up," then I realize I'm still dreaming, eventually I wake up, really;)

I'm pretty sure I'm awake right now.:P

I'm not crazy.

Hmmmmm .... :S

Well, anyway, I figure I'm OK as long as my wife doesn't think I need to be tethered. I talk in my sleep sometimes, but fortunately I don't get up and wander around. That would suck[:/]

WOW thats hard, but I know crazy schedules, done that. well eating healthy type foods will help with the energy, chamomile tea bout an hour or a half hour before bed helps to get to sleep; but I dont like to drink those energy drinks or take pills - so those are my recomendations :)

I've had multi layer dreams. When I was a kid I'd dream I was getting ready for school and my mom would wake me up (for real) and tell me to get ready for school. Confused I'd say, "I thought I was..." :S

I don't sleepwalk, but you can still tether me. ;)

I've had those quite a bit. The one's I hated the most were having a vivid nightmare, then having a flase awakening where I believe I am awake...but I'm still in the nightmare. Then of course after waking up for real at 1am, I can't get back to sleep and endure a workday on 3 hours of sleep. :S

Wikipedia has an intersting article on them:

A false awakening has significance to the simulation hypothesis which states that what we perceive as "true" reality is in truth an illusion as evidenced by our minds' inability to distinguish between reality and dreams. Therefore, advocates of the simulation hypothesis argue that the probability of our "true" reality being a simulated reality is affected by the prevalence of false awakenings.

*shiver*

No shit ... food for thought.

***Type 2

The Type 2 false awakening seems to be considerably less common. Green (1968) characterised it as follows: ‘[…]the subject appears to wake up in a realistic manner, but to an atmosphere of suspense[…]His surroundings may at first appear normal, and he may gradually become aware of something uncanny in the atmosphere, and perhaps of unwonted sounds and movements. Or he may “awake” immediately to a “stressed” and “stormy” atmosphere. In either case, the end result would appear to be characterized by feelings of suspense, excitement or apprehension.’ (Green, 1968, p.121)

:o:o:o OK ... now that's starting to sound like some of the skydives I've participated in! B|
