Oh, trust me, I know. The CRACK-CRACK of a pump action nearly always works, though.Seriously, though, people would be amazed how open their house is to invasion or burglary. However, its important to know that someone can get into anything if they want it bad enough. The trick is to make your place harder to get into then your neighbors' houses. Then at least your house won't be burglarized. dannydan 5 #59 January 29, 2008 shell Quote I'm thinking wrong house. Happens here every now and then when they're actually looking for a house a block over with the same number. You wanna know something, I ACTUALLY just did this about two weeks ago! My buddy asked me to come and chk out his Wii game (NO not His WiiWii) and He lives in this new development where EVERYTHING looks the same.... Well I got on the wrong street, and pulled uP to what I thought was his exact same place (was ther once b4 but at night) and I even chkd the mailbox and grabbed the mail in there to bring to him.... I get to the door and start to ring the bell but looked back at the car in the drive and IT WAS NOT HIS.... I looked around, saw a landmark that was out of place and then saw a baby thingy in this car and sure enuf I was not in Kansas anymore!!! I casually walked back down the drive, casually put the mail back in the box, looked around making SURE that any peeps watching me saw that I was a CONFUSED jumpster, threw uP my arms (no I didnt eat them), and got into my "pimpscort" and drove off to the other street.... So yeah... this does happen even to the coolest father in the world!!! (Gawd I was so embarASSED for a few nanoseconds) One thing I noticed as I was looking around b4 getting in my car, and it was the FACT that NO ONE had their shades pulled!!! All window dressings were fully closed! No one would have noticed me anywayz.....fuckerzzz That is NOT the hood I want to live in! Everyone is too damn private!AGGIEDAVE Quote keyed deadbolts (both sides) huh??? No way man... Not me! I lose keys like crazy!
monkycndo 0 #60 January 29, 2008 Quotekeyed deadbolts (both sides), etc. Sorry Dave, this is against the building code. Might be good to protect property, but it can trap someone in the house during an emergency, and has with loss of life. Hence the reason for the code. I don't have my code book in front of me, but basically locks that require any of the following to operate from the interior: a tool, key or "special knowledge" to unlock, shall not be used. Even if you leave the key in the lock on the inside of the door, it is against code.50 donations so far. Give it a try. happythoughts 0 #64 January 29, 2008 For some inexpensive discouragement, get a light with a motion detector. At my back door, I have a motion detector on a halogen lamp. When the raccoons run through the back yard, it is brighter than Day 1 in Genesis. It is also convenient when I get out of the car at night. When I walk around the corner, PING! Daylight. The whole back yard is lit and I don't fumble for a light switch. Nobody is standing around looking for mischief in the dark. I recommend them to everyone. Currently, I keep the outdoor light on at night, along with the lights on the outside of my garage. Keeps the yard and the backdoor pretty well lit.
