Someone was trying to get into my house!

Recommended Posts

About 5 minutes ago. I was already in bed, almost asleep and Herc starting barking his fool head off! He NEVER barks that much unless someone is in his yard when he's in the house!

I came downstairs, went through the living room into the kitchen and Herc was standing at the back door growling. I just stood there with him and I could hear someone walking up onto the porch. It's been snowing a TON here today and you could hear his boots "squeaking" in the snow.

I just stood then and then they walked off the porch.

Went out into the living room and peeked out the window and some guy all dressed up in a snow suit (it's -30oC out there right now!) was walking down the front walk.

He got into an SUV out front and they drove off.

I have NO idea who it was. If it was my brother, he would have come into the house (he has a key).

Needless to say, I'm wide awake now.

And I'm REALLY thankful I have a dog.

I'm glad you're OK. I can't imagine how scary that was. Is there anyone you can call to stay with you tonight or is there anyone you can go and stay with tonight? I doubt that if something like that happened to me I'd be able to stay home alone that same night.

No, I'll stay here as it's currently about -40oC or colder (with the windchill) and I'm not about to go anywhere in this, nor am I willing to make anyone else come out in it either. It's been NASTY here all day.

I have NO idea who would even be out in this weather. I'm wondering if it was just someone that had the wrong house.

Thankfully, Herc came to my rescue and barked and barked at them. Probably why they left.

The streets have been quiet since then. Not a soul in sight.

I'll just hang here and calm down a bit then head to bed again. With my killer dog.

:)
Thanks for your concern, folks. Just needed to vent about it.

I hope it was something with an innocuous explanation and am glad you're ok!!!

Walt

I hope it was too. Makes it easier for me to sleep if I think that way.

Now I guess I'll have to venture out in the cold tomorrow to buy my dog a big ol' fat t-bone steak! :)
I think I'll grab a glass of wine to calm down.

In that situation, lotsa guns and ammunition can be very calming. I hope you have plenty of both.

Very funny. I'm in Canadia. No guns or ammo.

But we DO have hockey players.

I just don't have one here right now.

A hockey stick makes a great club ... and a hockey puck in the end of a sock works, too.

I have none of that available right now.

But I DO have a nice piece of 2x4 hanging out in the basement stairwell doing nothing at the moment.

That should do the trick. IF they get past the dog.

;)

Yep, 2X4s will do the trick.

Isn't it, like the law or something up there about hockey sticks per household or something, or do they just issue each kid one of each when they're born?

We come out of the womb with them.

;);)

There are a few in my garage. But that's across the yard from the house. And it's snowing and blowing and -41oC with the windchill.

I'll grab the 2x4.

And sleep with the dog tonight.

So you're posting here instead of making a police report why? Sure nothing happened, BUT similar things may have been happening around your neighborhood. Trends and SPO activity are important to report. More then you can imagine.

dang.... after reading this thread... I was going to go there too! However since it was DAYLIGHT in Oz.... look whom was not able to!:P;)

WELL, I just want/NEED to say that it was NOT me walking around and uP to your house (esp uninvited) even tho, i slept really good knowing all I'm cyber gf's are getting their boobies done uP!!!

Shell and rest of us here, this is like the 2nd thread starter of someone trying SOMETHING at someones place in the past 6months..... I think it was NWFlyer....

I am SUPER DOOPER glad and relieved (nothing sexual here;)) that your K9 is a FIGHTER and not a coward.... Dogs are great and all, but not all are great warning alarms!

I would suggest that NEXT TIME or the first time for ANY of you ladies as well as hungover men, that if you encounter something like this, that the very FIRST thing YOU do is DIAL yr local PEACE OFFICER and get them rolling to yr location before you leave yr bed and start moving towards yr dog that is barking....! Keep that fone line OPEN with the dispatcher....
Play it out, (AGGIE DAVE is RIGHT ON), the LEO rolls uP on this SUV driving away, the LEO has other reports of same SUV discription and BAM... The neighhood has just "worked together" on getting a WEIRDO off the street.... for awhile!

Peeps cant always nor do they want a weapon, YOUR PHONE is yr next and BEST option then....

Glad yr safe Shelllllll muah..;)
peace and safety peeps...:):dd

There's nothing like the comforting sound of a shotgun slide.

That is most definitely a sound recognized by the vast majority of people on earth. The reaction is invariably "Oh shit I just fkd up!" followed by running or a thump as the perp faints.

I'm with AggieDave, make a report. Sometimes a 'door knob jiggler' wants to see whos home. You were too much work, so he went somewhere else, but you may have a description that can be used to catch him in the act at another location.

Something was VERY suspicious there. If he was lost or having car trouble, he wouldn't go to the back door. He was trying not to be seen from the road.

I hope you got a license number and a bit of a description... and as mentioned - make a report.

Give Herc a hug
