shortyj 0 #1 January 22, 2008 It really gets on my nerves I only have 3 jumps and I don't say I am skydiver (yet) Anyway this one girl said she had like 15 jumps and said she could train to do tandems So I asked her about aff she was like i don't know the abbrveations So I keep asking questions me "do you have a rig and jumpsuit" her "yes" me "how much did it cost" her "$50" me "for the jumpsuit?" her "for all of it" me "wow how did you get for that price, how many jumps did it have on it?" her "3 I got from a friend she did 3 jumps and didn't want it, one of her rich relatives bought it brand new for her" O.k. I know that jumpsuits are a good $200 and a new rig $5000. I just lose interest in talking about skydiving when it's apparent that I know more than them with 3 jumps So why do people do this? Oh and I'm sure you have to have more than 15 jumps to train to do tandems. Isn't it like 500-800? That would mean Andy could do tandems YIKES! Andy I am just teasingPlaytime is essential. Its not just with skydiving, its with bull riding, politics, running track or anything that these people think they can bull shit about about, that is anything that they think they can get away with lying about without the possibility that somebody will know better. I had a coe-worker tell me yesterday how a freind of his got his CCNA, CCNP and CCIE within a month. Reality is that with a lot of studying and competence, it would take a 1 month for the CCNA, 3 to 4 months for a CCNP and then after all that 6 months for a CCIE. These timelines are assuming you did nothing with your time but study and had a lab to practice on. Being that I am a CCNP, I just smiled and said, "yeah that friend of yours must really know his stuff". Then I had my fat co-worker who is easily 60-70 pounds overweight tell me that he normally runs 5 miles in 25 minutes when working out. I wasn't sure if he really thought I was going to believe that he was at the level of an olympic long distance runner or if he simply did not know what he was b.s.'ing about. Either way he left me thinking what an idiot. If I could make a wish, I think I'd pass. Can't think of anything I need No cigarettes, no sleep, no light, no sound. Nothing to eat, no books to read. Baksteen 84 #9 January 22, 2008 Yes, mate.. Size does matter. It's just like what we always tell them: "true beauty lies within". To the OP, I guess people lie about skydiving to seem cool and interesting compared to all the blah yokels who are merely rich or hot or something. EDIT: I mean, after all what are the odds of running into a real skydiver? The courses are cool for a week off when your company is paying for it. But, if you could pass the exam just from sitting in a classroom for a week, then the exam would be meaningless. Also I am not sure if you completely expired what you need to do but, if I read correctly, inorder to remain current you just need to pass one professional level exam. If I didn't have my sights on the IE, I would probably do the MPLS or BGP one.If I could make a wish, I think I'd pass. Can't think of anything I need No cigarettes, no sleep, no light, no sound. That usually does the trick. Otherwise I would ask them questions about their gear, what kind of airplane the DZ has, anything specific and they will start talking around in circles and they will know you are onto them. Usually it's not worth my time though.
