ACMESkydiver 0 #1 February 1, 2008 I was thinking 24 hours would be fine...crikeys, I just read the label and it says 2-4 days to thaw in the refrigerator! I'm supposed to cook this big ass turkey tomorrow night...and it says NOT to thaw it in warm water, and you can't leave it out...so, any ideas on a quicker way to thaw a turkey than to let it sit in the 'fridge? It's too big to fit in the microwave...I just pulled it out and I'm soaking it in cold water in the sink. help! ~Jaye Do not believe that possibly you can escape the reward of your action. Every year he cooks 75 to 100 turkeys for them, and ONE for me. He says use the sink, luke warm water and SALT method. okalb 104 #4 February 1, 2008 2-4 days to thaw in the fridge. If you leave it out in the sink it should be good by tomorrow night. You don't need to worry about it spoiling since it will still be defrosting the whole time. If tomorrow it is still not ready, you can sink it COLD water. You don't want to use warm because it will start to cook the outside. Also, take it out of the plastic vacuum sealed wrapper if it is in one, that makes a big difference in the time it takes.Time flies like an arrow....fruit flies like a banana

ACMESkydiver 0 #6 February 1, 2008 Thanks! I'll leave it in the sink in the cold water for now...then when I get home from errands, I'll take it out of the wrap and soak it in some salt water in a tub of water & stick it back in the 'fridge tonight. Thanky! From this website http://homecooking.about.com/od/turkeyrecipes/r/blturkey5.htm To thaw turkey in cold water: Make certain that the turkey is in a leakproof package or a zipper-seal plastic bag. This prevents bacteria in the surrounding environment from being introduced into the food, and prevents the poultry tissues from absorving water, resulting in a watery product. Change the cold water every 30 minutes. Approximately 30 minutes per pound of turkey are required for thawing. After thawing in cold water, the turkey should be cooked immediately.'Shell
