ACMESkydiver 0 #1 January 30, 2008 http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=4346670 Don't buy that one. My 78 pound son was laying on his tummy on it and bouncing up and down, and it burst. Not a slow leak like these things are 'supposed' to do in case of rupture- but the entire seam blew out and he landed on his stomach on the floor. Kid is ok; smacked his chin a little, but I have never in my life seen a tougher little boy. He just shook it off. Just thought I'd warn people. Yeah, I guess serves me right for saving a buck and buying it at WalMart...and the ball isn't intended for circus tricks, but he was laying on it whilest bouncing and like I said the kid only weighs 76 pounds. I weigh considerably more and we do balance work in my ab class at the gym. We have 5 exercise balls currently, and have owned several more. Never had one blow out a seam like this. If they leak, it's a slow leak. I was going to send it back to Danskin but Joe already threw it out. I will send them a heads up via email, however.~Jaye Do not believe that possibly you can escape the reward of your action.

I guess the think that confuddles me about that is 'Danskin' is a well-known name in the exercise industry. I could see if it was some off-brand, but I really thought that the name lent credibility. Danskin is well known in fitness clothing, and not equipment though. And the price shoulda been a heads up. I also have this one: http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=5246089 by Gold's Gym. Again, I bought it from WalMart. The boys don't tend to like it as it is weighted with sand so it doesn't roll around or bounce off of the ground. I do my balance work on that (it's easier to do 4, 3 & 2 point balances on a weighted 'cheater' ball ). I have no complaints with this one, and the rubber was a LOT heavier than the Danskin ball. I'll keep an eye on this one, and see where else might sell it and see if there's a difference in quality...I've heard that Costco (Sam's Club for you southerners ) will get lesser quality name brand stuff...like the denim that makes the Levi's 501's that they use is lighter grade than the very same pair of jeans you'd buy in a department store for the same 501 jeans. I guess it wouldn't surprise me if WalMart had similar agreements with major manufacturers...~Jaye Do not believe that possibly you can escape the reward of your action. I'm not going to return it - I want to keep the exercise DVD that came with it. I'll just use one of the other balls we have here. Dang...did you happen to see the second or third review down on that page from customers? She said that she loved it until her kitten jumped on it and popped it. A freaking kitten popped the damn ball. I guess I could see a full grown cat or dog sinking their chompers or claws into it...but a kitten? Sheesh. That's thin rubber. Bad ball. ~Jaye Do not believe that possibly you can escape the reward of your action.

SpeedRacer 1 #16 January 30, 2008 I saw a warning about this sort of thing on the news. some exercise balls are tougher and have been built so that if they get punctured, the air goes out slowly. to avoid just this sort of danger. evidently not the ones at Walmart. The ironic thing is at my last ab/pilates class where we were fully balancing on top of these types of balls, the other ladies and I were joking about how horribly embarrassing it would be if one of the balls we were balancing on like circus seals suddenly popped and we went flying...I told the boys' therapists never to buy Danskin brand balls for therapy.~Jaye Do not believe that possibly you can escape the reward of your action. tigra 0 #21 January 30, 2008 Is it possible the ball was over inflated? They bounce better that way ............. I'm not saying it should have burst like that but those balls really aren't meant to bounce on. The balance balls I've purchased all come with a warning about over inflating them. Also as far as I know, Sam's Club is owned by Walmart. Costco is a different business entirely. We've got both around here and I can honestly say I've never had any quality issues with anything I have purchased from Costco- clothing, electronics, food, cookware, etc. We actually tend to think of Costco as a "higher end" Sam's Club. About the only thing I won't buy from them is produce like fruits and veggies- mainly because they are packaged in larger quantities than 2 people can consume before they go bad. I'm quite certain that over-inflation wasn't an issue. It didn't feel 'hard' and it had plenty of give when I used it to do the sit-up thingies with a medicine ball on my chest. I also used it for the 4, 3, and 2 point balances, and if it were over inflated, those stances atop the ball would be dang near impossible. We try to keep those exercise balls from being too inflated in this house...our boys are strong as anything, and we don't need 65cm balls bouncing and crashing into stuff. That's part of what I like about the Sta-ball. It doesn't bounce at all (it will kind of rebound a few inches at best and then settle straight on the spot) so it is less appealing to ambitious youngsters. Little Joey was actually doing one of the exercises on the chart that came with it, though he didn't know it -push up over the ball- but he was bouncing a little when he put his hands down. Even with the added pressure, it still shouldn't have equalled my weight directly above the ball in a 2-point balance. I wish it would have dropped me instead of him. ~Jaye Do not believe that possibly you can escape the reward of your action.
