Chilly!

So, over the noon hour I took a few things to the bank and then walked back to our office....4 blocks. When I came in the lobby of our building a fellow coming out said, "Your nose is really frozen!"

I sure did...half of it was white and thumped when I tapped it with my finger. I got up to my office as fast as I could to try and take a picture with my iSight. The frozen part had started to unthaw by the time I got the photo but you can see a paler area...the unfrozen parts were red like the rest of my face.

In sunny Saskatoon Saskatchewan, Canada while I was out walking it was -51 Celsius with wind chill which translates to -60 F for you non-Celsius folk. The air temperature was -37 C, -35F.

But in Saskatoon, it's a "dry cold" so to be fair -51 really only feels like -50.

Take a laddle or cup full of warm water and throw it in the air, I did that a number of years ago in weather like that and the water crystalized on the way up, very cool (yeah pun intended). There's a picture of that at home somewhere, will try to find it.

Thanks for starting this thread. I was just about to post my current conditions and ask for other to beat is so I'd feel better.

Currently in the Twin Cities its -6F with -30F windchill. Winds are 22mph gusting to 35mph. That makes the "Real Feel" temp -38F. Yesterday's high temp was 42F. That's a swing of 80 degrees (using the real feel temp) in less than 24 hours. I love Minnesota!

It's only -28oC here right now with a windchill of -41oC. It was -36oC when I left for work this AM (windchill of -47oC).

It's going down to -39oC tonight. Not sure what the windchill will bring but I'm guessing as cold or colder than you had today.

NOT looking forward to that.

Just the other day I was thinking about how January hadn't been too bad at all!!! Musta jinxed us!

Mike, does Lake Superior freeze right over when it gets cold like this or do you also get humidity off the lake?

I was going to rollerblade, so I put on some light cotton pants. I walked outside and Whoa! Time to change.

Went back in and put on the shorts. I did keep on the long-sleeve shirt though. It was breezy and I thought that it might cool off.

Probably 73-75 deg.
