My HOME DZ is closing it's doors.......

Recommended Posts

and I'm more than a bit sad!!!! :(:(:(:(:(

We all have one, that home DZ, where we go even on crappy weather weekends to just hang out, and drink from the beer fridge till it's empty.

The place where you either did most or all of your training, and wanted to be the place for all of your "firsts."

Where your friends there are your family for a year or two, since your real family lives thousands of miles away.

Where you see people that you saw just last weekend and greet them with a hug anyway.

So my friends, on this friday night...
Raise a glass for me for my old home DZ!

Blue Skies Skydiving Adventures in Bremerton, WA.... you will surely be missed!!!!

Well, call me out of the loop ... I hadn't heard that. [:/]

Geesh...I hadn't heard that Blue Skies was closing shop, either.

Too bad. [:/]

Lots of firsts and onlies for me out there, too. Only time I ever spent the night on the DZ...first and only time I ever got pied...my 100th jump...jumping with the GK's...worst road rash I ever had on landing...:$[:/]

And of course, Corey and Scotty and Hooters for football.

Dang...

Damn:o

It might have something to do with the airport construcing a building on one end of the landing area

I only live 30 mi away from Bremerton[:/] Maybe if I stop by this week and tell Dave I'll stop coming by if he'll change his mind about closing. the new bldg won't seem so bad.:)

The Blue skies DZ reminded me of a old time cessna DZ in the midwest with a all the good vibes, All the modern conveniences were just iceing on the cake.

Here's what I've seen in Washington since I started jumping, all but Pullman's close being in the last 8-10 years.

Stable:
Toledo
Snohomish

New:
Mt. Vernon
Sequiem (apparently...hadn't heard of it before today)

Moved:
Mead-to-Davenport-to-Ritzville
Shelton-to-Bremerton-to-closed
Kapowsin-to-Shelton
Port Townsend moved locally

Closed:
Pullman (Planagan's place)
Yakima (Leonard's)
Richland (Larry & Bob's)
Kennewick (BJ's)
Kennewick (Yacek)
Bremerton (Blue Skies)

Eastern Washington has really contracted. Western Washington appears to have one more DZ now than they did 10 years ago.

Damn, been there, lived that. If only there were some words that could alleviate the sad, empty, helpless frustration of these events. Unfortunately, the only thing that can do that is the warm and tender love of a mass OrFun Initiation!!!!!

C'mon! Who wants to be our N.W. point person on this one? (I believe NW Flyer may be qualified to welcome our new li'l bastards into the family.)

Hey, I'll even FedEx you guys your own official ceremonial paddle. .....I mean Tough Love Applicator.

HI Dog

We called the subject DZ to tell them I'd stay home if they stayed open.:)

The answering machine said the DZ was open on weekends is the DZ isn't closed until the answering machine quits.

When in doubt [:/] Call the DZ answering machine for the latest scoop.B|

Sequiem (apparently...hadn't heard of it before today)

From what I've heard of Sequim it's a few guys who occasionally have a plane, not a DZ per se (at least if I remember correctly).

Sad....

Whose getting the planes? I think the first C-182 I ever flew jumpers in (5827B) is/was used there.....

"Bravo" got flipped in a wind storm ~1.5/2 years ago, I think. It was sitting in the hanger w/o wings with a bent tail until BSSA closed towards the end of last year. Not sure where it is now... [:/]

The good vibes, the smell of gear in the club house.

Fridge FULL of Budweiser.

The photos on the wall of people doing things I couldn't dream of at places I might never get to...

Ah yes, those were the dayz! B|:$

that's too bad. I loved that plane. Had my first engine failure in it and lots of even better good times. She was almost always faithful... sniff, sniff......:( If you hear where it's at, or if they are parting her out, please let me know.

27B is still in storage in Tacoma, WA. We haven't decided exactly what we're going to do with it yet, either sell it as is, part it out, or put it back together. The email for the dz is still active and you can contact us at skydive@blueskies-skydiving.com if you want more info about it.
