Thanatos340 1 #1 December 23, 2007 Has anyone got around to creating a POI List for Dropzones yet? It would be great to load a Dropzone List into my new Garmin Nuvi. If someone has not already done this, I will see about creating one. The data is already in the Dropzones list here (DZ Name and Coordinates). Just a matter of getting a data Extract and reformatting it. If it has been done, Where can I find the file?
shropshire 0 #2 December 23, 2007 Not sure about being able to grab the file but Wuza may be a good place to start....clicky (.)Y(.) Chivalry is not dead; it only sleeps for want of work to do. - Jerome K Jerome
Thanatos340 1 #3 December 23, 2007 So Close.. But not quite. They have the List View I would need but the list view does not show the GSP Coordinates on the list view.
warpedskydiver 0 #4 December 23, 2007 SDC has it's coordinates posted on their website.
pilotdave 0 #5 December 23, 2007 That's a great idea. Street addresses of DZs would probably work best since it'll be able to navigate to the right side of the airport the DZ is on. I assume you can't use addresses for POIs though. I played with POIs on my Nuvi and couldn't find a set of them that I would ever want. Out of curiosity, have you found any useful sets of POIs? BillyVance 35 #6 December 23, 2007 Sorry for my ignorance, but what the fuck is a POI? Point Of Interest?"Mediocre people don't like high achievers, and high achievers don't like mediocre people." - SIX TIME National Champion coach Nick Saban
Thanatos340 1 #7 December 23, 2007 I am playing with it right now. Just got it so I am still figuring it out. I did find a List of All Airfields/Airports in the US http://www.poi-factory.com/poifiles/us/air-fields I am working with the wuza File liked earlier to try to get it converted for the Garmin now. And Yes Billy, It is Points of interest. Basically on the GPS Pull up the list of whatever (Dropzones in this case) Pick the one you want, and it shows you exactly how to get tehre. Andy9o8 2 #9 December 23, 2007 QuoteSorry for my ignorance, but what the fuck is a POI? Point Of Interest? It is a traditional Hawaiian food made of tarot root. It is also a form of juggling with balls on ropes, held in the hands and swung in various circular patterns, comparable to club-twirling. It originated with the Maori people of New Zealand . (In fact, the word poi means "ball" in Maori. Bet you didn't know that.)
Thanatos340 1 #10 December 23, 2007 Attached is the basic gpx file. (This works for Garmin Nuvi and other garmin models) Just DZ Name and coordinates for now. I will hopefully update with Phone numbers and addresses later. (Edit: Latest Attachment Now contains Phone, Zip, City and State)

shermanator 4 #15 December 24, 2007 When I got my gps, i used the dz.com cordinates, and some other websites to get cordinates for those that didn't have them on this site. .. I got bored of it and stopped after the N states. .. so if you want A-N, let me know, I'll email them to you, or can send them over by messenger. I have the Garmin 550 streetpilot. here is example of the california.CLICK HERE! new blog posted 9/21/08 CSA #
Thanatos340 1 #16 February 5, 2008 I made a few Changes and Enhancements to the List. Updated a few address and such. If you have a Garmin GPS, You should be able to load this file with your POI Loader. This may work on other GPS Models as well but I have not tested with anything other than Garmin Nuvi Series GPS. This File contains GPS Coordinates for Almost every DZ in the US and Porto Rico. I will be working on other files for Europe and other regions and posting them soon as I get time. Enjoy and let me know if you find it useful.
