Remster 30 #1 February 12, 2008 Who know anything about infrared range finders? I have an industrial application where I need to do real time measurements of 0-50 ft in a dusty environment. Laser is kinda useless in dust. Do any of you have info / links to that type of range finder?Remster

ZeG 0 #4 February 12, 2008 Oh even better, I remembered this one: www.leica-geosystems.com. I used one of their electro optic systems for surveying once. They also offer infrared systems. Try calling them or send them an email.
Morrison79 0 #5 February 12, 2008 What is it that you are trying to measure? I work with a few different types of measuring equipment. CMM's, laser scanning equipment, Both contact and Non contact systems
Remster 30 #6 February 12, 2008 Imagine a very large drill. 50 foot long. I need to measure the position of the head of the drill from the top of the mast as the head is being driven down.Remster
JackC 0 #7 February 12, 2008 If a laser rangefinder is no good, I doubt an infrared rangefinder will work either. After all infrared is still just a light beam, the dust will block it just like it blocks the laser light.
MikeJD 0 #8 February 12, 2008 What about this? Actually, I'm not helping, am I?
Nutz 0 #9 February 12, 2008 I don't think you have told us enough, there are many ways to do it depending on conditions and what you are trying to measure exactly. I know you said it was dusty, is what you are measuring basically stationary? "Don't! Get! Eliminated!"
Morrison79 0 #10 February 12, 2008 From what he wrote earlier it sounds like he's trying to measure the depth that the had of the bit.
MikeForsythe 0 #11 February 12, 2008 What about using a ultrasonic range finder?Time and pressure will always show you who a person really is!
ZeG 0 #12 February 12, 2008 I thought they only work over short distances. With dust and over 50ft? Hm.. I am not an expert on that, but I would doubt it.
