Guitarists...ever seen one of these.....?

Recommended Posts

This is a handy gadget, a string-stretcher that was included in a set of Fender Super Bullets I'd bought a few years ago. This is the only one I've ever seen and I'd like to get a few more, for spares and for some of my playin' buddies. I've searched online but all I can come up with, is the patent info. Anybody know where I can find 'em?

It looks like something you would put on a toilet to potty-train a child. I had to do a double take and reread what the thread was about!

Could be a cock ring for a disfigured guy.
I'm not usually into the whole 3-way thing, but you got me a little excited with that. - Skymama

I don't get it. Is it any easier than just pulling up a new set of strings by hand as you install them?

I think it is, definitely easier on the fingies. The string snaps into the arch, on the stretcher....I start at the pickups, pull out on the string and rock the tool forward, going toward the headstock, then rock it back and slide it back down to the bridge. Once or twice on each string and I usually never (after final tune to pitch) have to retune. I used to break a lot of high strings, stretching by hand...especially on the 12s but since using this, I haven't broken any. I know some of the string winders (Planet Waves) have a stretcher built into them but I don't think they're nearly as convenient.
