Climbed Mt Rainier?

Recommended Posts

6 ascents on Rainier in earlier days.

If you do not have a LOT of experience on other Cascade Volcanos... then use a guide service. at 14410 it has some very nasty weather and has killed a LOT of people who were not prepared.

I have guided on some of the lesser Cascade peaks and when we did Rainier.... it was a group of equals who went up. I knew I could trust the others on the climb to not do something stupid... Get the skills necessary and do some of the lower peaks first. You can rent good equipment but its still best to get experience on one of the guided climbs or join one of the local clubs.

ALSO.. if you are not in REALLLLY good physical condition you may want to spend some time at altitude to aclimate. If you ware used to sea level... doing that kind of workout on a glacier at 14k is a real huffer and puffer.

I know my limitations in my old age and I will never be climbing above 10k again in this lifetime.

I went with RMI Ranier Mountain Guides a couple of years back.

I was very impressed with the expertise of their guides and prefessional operation, and we had a wonderful trip. Most (not all) of the group summited and some of us trekked across the bowl to the "True" summit on the other side.

Go Go Go Go

you will not regret it...
