woodpecker 0 #1 February 18, 2008 Does anyone or has anyone lived around the area? I might be moving over that way and trying to get an idea on realestate. Any help will be greatly appreciated. ACMESkydiver 0 #2 February 18, 2008 It's a nice place. At least it was last I was there...um, 1990 or thereabouts? They had a REALLY nice chow hall. -'Course, it was nice because we were in the officer's caffeteria, and Air Force has wayyyy better digs than we did in the army. As for surrounding area...well, again, 18 years ago, it was pretty much nothing. I mean nothing...like fields after fields after fields of...nothing. I would bet that it has to have developed a lil' more by now. Good luck! ~Jaye Do not believe that possibly you can escape the reward of your action. McDuck 0 #3 February 19, 2008 Dude, we used to say that the wind didn't blow in Spokane...FAIRCHILD SUCKS! I can't be 100% sure, but if the phrase "The beatings will continue until morale improves" wasn't coined at Fairchild, it was at least PERFECTED there. You have to remember that it used to be a SAC base, and nobody in SAC was happier than when they left. When summer comes to the area, everyone goes to the lake that weekend. Find a nice garage for your motorcycle, and get used to visiting it there 9 months out of the year. If it wasn't for all of the meth houses, Spokane would be a really shitty place to live. Ice storms...almost every winter. Seriously, you'll find you'd rather be cutting trees in Siberia for the next four years. Talk to me on the other site. I'll give you the low down. If you can go west of the Cascades, you'll do much better.Kevin - Sonic Beef #5 - OrFun #28 "I never take myself too seriously, 'cuz everybody know fat birds don't fly." - FLC Online communities: proof that people never mature much past high school. Jumpervint 0 #4 February 19, 2008 Spokane has lots to offer, despite what McDuck says. There definitely are worse places to live. What are you looking for? You want to know about jumping here? Night life? Housing? Weather? I can fill you in on most of it, or point you to the places to find it. Vint. . . . . "Make it hard again." It's Fairchild AIRFORCE Base. It couldn't have ever been that fucking bad! -What...was there no cable in the barracks when you were there? I guess y'all could have applied for hazard pay then, couldn't ya? Chair Force ossifers are fuggin' hard core. ~Jaye Do not believe that possibly you can escape the reward of your action. sdctlc 0 #7 February 19, 2008 The DZ in the area is /has recently moved to Ritzville for the upcoming season. You might try to touch base with a few of them as they know the current info on the area that you might be looking for... A few of them post on dz.com so I would imagine you will get a hit or two. The DZ web page is http://www.westplainsskydiving.com/ I lived over that way for a number of years in the Moscow/Pullman area which is about 1 to 1.5 hours south but I was up to Spokane a decent number of times.. Nice area and tons of stuff to do if you like the outdoors! Scott C."He who Hesitates Shall Inherit the Earth!"

woodpecker 0 #10 February 19, 2008 Thanks for the low down. Mcduck, I'll be over on the "other site" in a few. To answer a few question...I'm now one of the "walking" air force...aka SERE Specialists. Well, just got approved for the cross train so will be up there for training and a few years purfecting my ability to train. I'll be in touch for the jumping when it gets a little closer to my move. Thanks again all for the info.SONIC WOODY #146 There is a fine line between cockiness and confidence -- which side of the line are you on?

drdive 0 #12 February 19, 2008 Welcome to Spokane. In spite of what McDuck says, it is really a pretty nice town. Kind of dreary in the winter, but great ski hills close by. The DZ is great, flies a caravan, and house prices are reasonable. Get in touch when you get closer to your move. Doc"We saved your gear. Sounds like you will be a "summer class". Fun times.. Still called ITB and I'm unfortunatly going to the January 09 class if I get in. Less rucking but a hell of a lot of snow. Basically I finished my interview with the CFM and he approved my cross train. Now I have to wait for the deuche bags at AFPC to decide if I am able to fill one of the 75 seats available for that class. The old "rack and stack" of apps. However, I dont see the class being full or over since the field is still chronic critical and they just opened it for overseas applicants. But who knows with wonderful AFPC. I'll be in touch for any DZ info and fellow jumpers to hook up with if I get selected. Thanks again for the info.SONIC WOODY #146 There is a fine line between cockiness and confidence -- which side of the line are you on?
Amazon 7 #14 February 19, 2008 75 in a class.. holy shit.... ours was only 20.. and they were REALLLLY picky about who even went to Fairchild.. 3 crosstrainees and the rest out of basic. Most of us were in really good condition and mentally prepared so the pre screens had done their job. We lost the most... when someone could not impart the knowledge we had gleaned thru the 6 months of training... to others. If you cant teach... they dont want you. Most people find it very difficult to stand up in front of others and sound intelligent.
woodpecker 0 #15 February 19, 2008 Well most classes are actually in the twenties....there are just 75 seats available due to the shortage in the field and most are still washed out with the teaching. I'm already a SABC, CPR, and cytotoxic intravenous admixture instructor, so being in the front and teaching is no big deal to me. Its the 85lbs on my back that I'm not looking foward to...but not worried that I wont make it. Just one foot in front of the other. I'll let you know how it all works out and possibly pick your brain for some (cough) insight.SONIC WOODY #146 There is a fine line between cockiness and confidence -- which side of the line are you on? I still have the old school Keltys they used to issue back in the 70's... better than the older school packboards and rucks. Do some running and get in good shape.. the mountains are not all THAT high in the training area's but having plenty of leg strength and wind will help a lot when you start doing friggin point to point nav over them.. especially in the winter with snowshoes on. Yeah, it's more of a rolling hills kind of area right there, but the snow will make it tough enough. And I only speak poorly of Spokane because I spent 12 years there and was ready to leave long before that. I'm guessing that you're not going to JPRA SERE.Kevin - Sonic Beef #5 - OrFun #28 "I never take myself too seriously, 'cuz everybody know fat birds don't fly." - FLC Online communities: proof that people never mature much past high school.
