BillyVance 35 #1 February 26, 2008 I woke up at 4 am to my bed alarm going berserk. It's got a wireless feed from the baby alert, but the way it was acting made it seem our girl was in a full-blast scream, which didn't seem to be the case. Then I noticed non-stop intense lightning outside, but that wouldn't make the alarm come on and stay on. We got up and ran to her bedroom only to find her awake but not crying or anything, so I ran to the TV (we still have power) and find the channel that shows severe weather radar pictures. Sure enough there was a huge red swath of storms moving through and the leading edge had just passed over. However there was no tornado warning, just a severe thunderstorm warning. So I check out my back deck. Why is it all white? I open the door and get a closer look.... Hail! Deck was covered an inch deep with pea-sized hail. No wonder the bed alarm went berserk. Only the second time I've seen hail at my house in 7 1/2 years. Soon enough the storm blew over and headed east, and I got ready to go back to bed. But flashing lights from the street in front of my house got my attention. I went out with my flashlight to check it out. Police car and utility truck... pine tree fallen across road. They chain-sawed it enough to push it aside and a minute later they moved on down the road with a front-loader in hot pursuit. Alls well that ends well, nothing else wrong with my house or property. I get up this morning, and see hail still in one corner of my deck and in piles on the ground outside the drain downspouts around the house. I get online for the local news and find 20K homes without power within 30 miles of here and one death in Leeds where a tree crushed a mobile home. Glad it wasn't as bad as last week and the week before, but we aren't supposed to be seeing this shit for another month! I grabbed a handful of hail before going back to bed and stuck it in the freezer. Here's the hail, what's left of it on the deck (1st pic) and the tree on the road (2nd pic)"Mediocre people don't like high achievers, and high achievers don't like mediocre people." - SIX TIME National Champion coach Nick Saban
