PLFXpert 0 #1 February 11, 2008 Has anyone seen this movie? If so, what are your thoughts? I was going to post a sociological question regarding it in Speaker's Corner, but since they're already like SO preoccupied with the Iraq war, I'm sure they don't want to discuss Vietnam again. Sociological perspectives aside, I really enjoyed this movie (to my surprise! ). Paint me in a corner, but my color comes back.
kaerodyne 0 #2 February 11, 2008 It's been on my to watch list, missed it at the cinema, so will now just go get the DVD. Will get some feed back once I have watched it
Brittentay 0 #3 February 11, 2008 actually, we (me and the boyfriend) just rented this the other night! i too, was very suprised that i enjoyed it. after it was over we discussed a 1-5 rating scale and both of us gave it a 3 or 4. a movie i would want to watch again, especially with one of my parents and/or grandparents. all in all, i really enjoyed it. it was definitely a visual 'trip' if you will! PLFXpert 0 #4 February 11, 2008 Oh hunny, my father would call it something funny within the first 10 minutes. No WAY he'd watch it in its entirety. But, it's funny ya'll rated it because I couldn't decide whether to give it a 3 or 4 (out of 5) on my Netflix review. I decided on 4. Paint me in a corner, but my color comes back. Brittentay 0 #5 February 11, 2008 ok, let me correct myself... id like to watch it with my Mother or one of my Grandmothers! haha. i would just love to hear their thoughts on the portrayal. and actually, i really think my dad might enjoy it. i peaked his interest in it a little bit, so i'll have to call and see if hes rented it yet. edit to add: i can no longer post to this or any other thread. im only
Shotgun 1 #6 February 11, 2008 I've been waiting for it to come out on DVD, since it wasn't shown at any theaters around here. But now that it's out, I haven't had a chance to watch a movie. So I'll probably watch it sometime this week, at which point I may actually have something to contribute to the conversation.

marcandalysse 0 #8 February 11, 2008 It would be much better on the big screen...lots of visuals. Its still making the rounds of the discount cinemas.... It is a version of 'Hair' for the new millenium, for those too young to have been there or seen that play/movie. And using Beatles songs is way better than those dated songs from Hair. Bono was great, as was Eddie Izzard.... Recommended....especially if ya got some shrooms! While that song was well before my time (I'll give you that), I have fond memories of raiding my mutti's record collection and dancing like a lil' hippie all around the living room to that song. auburnguy 0 #11 February 12, 2008 I have extremely high expectations for any movie that is going to use mainly Beatles songs. I loved the movie. The depressing part was not having someone to watch it with."If you don't like your job, you don't strike! You just go in every day, and do it really half assed. That's the American way." - Homer Simpson
skydemon2 0 #12 February 12, 2008 I saw the previews and thought I was having 60's flashbacks..... Then I remebered I wasnt born in the 60's.........Looked good but I still havent seen it but its on my list from netflix! Beauty is only skin deep, but ugly goes clean to the bone! I like to start my day off with a little Ray of Soulshine™!!
SuperGirl 0 #13 February 12, 2008 I loved it, which was really surprising because I kinda got dragged to the cinema by some friends and I was very skeptical about it, mostly because I hate musicals. But I really really enjoyed this one.
Shotgun 1 #14 February 26, 2008 We finally watched this movie last night, and overall it was a highly entertaining film. I was glad to watch it on a widescreen projector though, because it wouldn't have been the same on a smaller tv screen. There were some really cool musical numbers with fun visuals and great music. (Well done on covering the Beatles' songs.) One of my favorites was the army recruiting number with "I Want You" as the score. And having them carry the statue of liberty during the "she's so heavy" part was pretty clever. I also liked the cheerleader singing "I Want to Hold Your Hand," walking dreamily across the football field as the guys were tackling each other all around her. That scene was cracking me up. I don't have much to say about the sociological perspective though - sort of typical "war sucks" kind of stuff. Interesting that they would choose to put it out right now, because it made me think more about Iraq than Vietnam, and I wondered if that was part of their intention. The story started out pretty good, but it got weak towards the end, and the actual ending was sort of blah. The musical numbers also got less spectacular in the second half, and it just sort of had an unfinished feel to me. So I was a little disappointed in that, but I really enjoyed watching it anyway. Brittentay 0 #15 February 26, 2008 did you watch any of the 'extras' on the second disc? i think understanding more of the directors insight and creativity with lyrics and scenes (for example...the 'shes so heavy' part, which i didnt catch watching the movie) made the movie that much more intriguing and interesting to me. i wish i had a projector to watch movies on!!! If that was part of their intention, however, I'm not sure why. The movie really doesn't serve the "anti-war" side well if the goal is to garner understanding and more support for the anti-war side. I can see how it might fuel already anti-war folks, though. Quote The story started out pretty good, but it got weak towards the end, and the actual ending was sort of blah. Shotgun 1 #18 February 26, 2008 The ending was ok; I guess I was just expecting a more elaborate finale, especially after the more elaborate scenes at the beginning of the movie. And (for obvious reasons) I had been expecting a scene with "Lucy in the Sky"... So when he looked up at her at the end, I thought ok here it comes... And yeah, they did play the song, but over the freakin' credits! (Though that was some cool footage that they had along with the credits.) Anyhow, it was still a really good movie, and I give it a 3.5 out of 5. (I am allowed to use halves. )

Shotgun 1 #20 February 26, 2008 Oh, and one of the funniest lines in the movie: "Where did she come from?" "She came in through the bathroom window."
PLFXpert 0 #21 February 26, 2008 It was a funny line, but I appreciated it more than anything because I can completely relate. I have climbed in and out of a few windows, but that's not what I mean by "relate"--I've been accused of being very composed in seemingly odd situations before. I think it's just a matter of recognizing what's truly something to react to and what just is and poses no threat. Did that make sense? Paint me in a corner, but my color comes back.
