The problem is that, fading or not, a lot of NASCAR fans will vote for her as "one of us", in the same way that we vote fro RM.

I also had to think "Damn, why against Danica!" Danica is super hot, has an incredible website, not to mention a huge fan base. That fan base is primarily NOT in NASCAR though. She runs the Indycar Series. Much faster, more power, open wheel, damn! Danica would get my vote ANY OTHER DAY. Today though, I had to vote Roberta. Why couldn't they have put her against someone else, like Allyson Felix?

I saw a family interview once. Her mom said that she had been racing and winning since she was a kid. She is extremely competitive and a risk-taker. There were other girl racers, but she kept winning. The interests of the other girls changed and hers didn't.

Danica was on one of the talk shows and wasn't that impressive as a personality, but her professionalism was very apparent. She was there to talk about work and not to flirt with the talk show host.

She presents a positive role model for young girls that says you can be respected for your abilities.

On the race track, she either wins or doesn't.

NASCAR has become like pro football or, worse case, pro wrestling on tv.

People buy a Bucs jacket for $400 because "it is their team". What sense does that make?

NASCAR may promote themselves as good ole boys with cars, but it isn't a dirt track industry anymore.
It has websites and $200K cars in $500K car haulers.

Drivers promote themselves and their sponsors.

Doing a backflip on the track after a win is just like a pro football endzone dance or a back flip off the ring ropes in WWF.
