Baksteen 84 #3 February 28, 2008 Could be worse - same weather over here BUT they are predicting winds of 7 bft for the weekend. as well as a 70% chance of rain. I hope it's all one giant typo..."That formation-stuff in freefall is just fun and games but with an open parachute it's starting to sound like, you know, an extreme sport." ~mom
virgin-burner 1 #4 February 28, 2008 http://www.meteoschweiz.admin.ch/web/en/weather.html bear in mind that this is °C, not °F.. its february, and feels like april or may already.. dont really care about the winds, at my dropzone, they're always tricky and turbulent.. have to live with it or dont skydive! “Some may never live, but the crazy never die.” -Hunter S. Baksteen 84 #5 February 28, 2008 Tricky turbulence is one thing, 30 knots (15 m/s), possibly gusting to who-knows-what is quite another I wouldn't feel comfortable landing while backing up at 7 metres per second, so I wouldn't jump even if the instructor on duty would let me. virgin-burner 1 #6 February 28, 2008 i hate to admit, but i dont really have a clue about windspeeds n'such.. can you tell me in how horizontal/vertical that on a windsock would be!? “Some may never live, but the crazy never die.” -Hunter S. Baksteen 84 #7 February 28, 2008 Completely horizontal. This url may help, though the connection can be a bit shaky. For comparison, during their first five jumps, a student skydiver isn't allowed to jump in winds over six m/s (12 knots). After that the limit is increased to nine m/s (18 knots) for the first 200 jumps. EDIT: Oh yeah, talk to your instuctors blahblah low jumpnumbers etc. "That formation-stuff in freefall is just fun and games but with an open parachute it's starting to sound like, you know, an extreme sport." ~mom
virgin-burner 1 #8 February 28, 2008 i've jumped in winds like that.. all different here, there's limits for students, but once you get your license.. only your S&TA will hold you back, or the pilot of the plane.. basically its like, do whatever the fuck you like, just dont come run crying "i've hurt myself!".. i cant get my rig back until the weekend after that.. put on my backpack, pretend it was my rig and do EP's all day long!? edited to add: cool website BTW, after it finally loaded.. pushing the envelope, bla-bla-bla, natural talent, gnar-gnar-gnar.. “Some may never live, but the crazy never die.” -Hunter S. wildfan75 1 #13 February 28, 2008 RevJim, Wissota is forecasted for a sunny and a high of 31F on Saturday. We're having our Safety Day (and annual club meeting). Sounds like its going to be a good crowd. One of our planes is getting a new engine but we still have two and will probably be doing some 8 way formation loads. Feel free to come on over! If you want to stay the night, the clubhouse is open for guests. My new rig came in this week and its all set up. I'll be the one with the spanking new rig and the huge grin on my face! Sunday looks like crap though.
