ltdiver 3 #9 March 1, 2008 Quote The caption to the photo gives the location - Vancouver Harbour (CYHC), British Columbia, Canada. You're referring to the first post. He's referring to the second (which btw, has a peculiar airport name--"Male International Airport". ) ltdiver Don't tell me the sky's the limit when there are footprints on the moon

Thanks! Scuba, huh? Let's take the planes for a spin the first week, then scuba the second. Wouldn't that make a very fun boogie? Sri Lanka. What else are they famous for? (something we can build the boogie around). ltdiver Don't tell me the sky's the limit when there are footprints on the moon
pilotdave 0 #11 March 2, 2008 The super otter my DZ used until a couple years ago is now flying on floats in the Maldives. They have huge fleets of them there (at least two airlines). They even have maintenance facilities that let them float the planes right in. Dave

Dave Actually the Harbour Air Twotter in the Vancouver pic is owned by Ken Borak Air, the owner of the other fleet of Otters in The Maldives. Their other claim to fame is they were the ones who flew to the south pole in winter to rescue that doctor a few years ago.

piisfish 140 #15 March 2, 2008 Quote What else are they famous for? (something we can build the boogie around). for being a muslim country, which have limited tolerance for alcohol. You can find alcohol in the resorts/hotels, but the costs are higher than in Norway (ask the BASE jumpers how much that would be). And importing your booze is not an option either... lurking 0 #16 March 3, 2008 I have been to the Maldives several times for scuba diving. There are currently 2 companies using twin-engined seaplanes to take tourists to the resort islands after landing at Male International. It´s quite an experience. Male international is a modern airport with a very long runway that accomodates everything up to a 777. It´s practically built into the ocean (see attached). If you want to avoid a long boat transfer to your resort you are then taken by bus across (!) the runway to the seaplane "airport". The bigger company alone has about 20 twin otters on floats. The flight si something special for every aviation enthusiast. Most pilots are from Canada. They traditionally fly barefoot. Off-season the planes are flown to Canade for major checks. Skydave103 0 #17 March 3, 2008 When I lived in South Fla, we saw an Otter landing on Lake Okeechobee. Our pilot radioed and got him to take us on a ride. (didn't get to jump it) It is owned by Wayne Hyzinga (sp). Owner of the Dolphins and Waste Management. They used it to fly to his private island in the Bahamas. (rough life) The pilot said it cost $750,000 to install the floats. and that was '00. Beautiful plane inside and out. Painted in Dolphins colors, -34's, white leather interior. Very enjoyable but short trip, we prob flew around for 30 min.
