futuredivot 0 #1 March 3, 2008 non sociable dz experience. As hard it it may be to believe, I am very shy. I ran over to a small cessna dz today, thought I would make a jump. When I got there, they were setting up the packing mat and were short on stakes. I told a guy that I had something in the car that would work and went and got it. When I got back, A truck was parked on one corner weighting it down. I stood there for about 10 minutes holding a handfull of large nails that I use to stake down a mat while everyone (8 or so people) were chatting in 3 little groups. I looked around to see if there was anyone that I could introduce myself to and no one was paying attention so I left. We're talking that I was on one end of the mat and other people were on the far side-not like I was a mile away, and this was a small dz-not like dropping in by Deland and getting lost in the crowd. If I had been a potential tandem-$200 would have walked away for lack of a hello. I'm glad that this is the exeption rather than the ruleYou are only as strong as the prey you devour
JustChuteMeNow 0 #2 March 3, 2008 I have only been to one unfriendly DZ that lacked social graces. Fortunately almost all of the others have rocked. Of course some rocked more than others. Leaving sounded like a good call. Think of how stupid the average person is and realize that statistically half of them are stupider than that.

Many years ago, when I had just 100 jumps, I visited Deland on a Friday. Wrong day. I got nothing but solos. I did share a load with Billy Weber and one of the 8 way teams, but clearly I picked the wrong day to go. I've been looking for an excuse to go back ever since but circumstances have never allowed it."Mediocre people don't like high achievers, and high achievers don't like mediocre people." - SIX TIME National Champion coach Nick Saban

popsjumper 2 #12 March 3, 2008 ...the part I'm having trouble with is where 'divot says he's "shy". I hardly knew him from Adam when I had a cutaway and who comes to get me and helps me look for my stuff? 'Divot. I'm dying of thirst at the DZ and who shows up with a carload of beer? 'Divot. I'm starving for food and who takes me out to dinner? You guessed it. Shy may ass.My reality and yours are quite different. I think we're all Bozos on this bus. JustChuteMeNow 0 #14 March 3, 2008 There is no doubt in my mind that it wasn't Wissota. Wissota has a great vibe. And while I have not jumped at many of the DZs in WI there seems to be a recurring theme regarding one particular DZ. From friends that have jumped there the feedback has been almost entirely negative. I don't know if it is the same DZ that the good Reverend had problems with or not but I do know that I won't be spending my money there any time soon. I listen to feedback from jumpers that I know and DZs that don't understand this concept will continue to lose business from me and my friends. That said tandem factories could care less if I come or not since neither me nor my friends are the target market. Since by reputation we know which DZs are the tandem factories we don't even try to frequent those types of operations and we don't hold them to the same standard. We know we are not welcome and we don't go. What I find hard to understand are the DZs that are not tandem factories but for some reason they still find a way to project a strong negative vibe. Luckily the two DZs that I frequent athe most have great vibes. Think of how stupid the average person is and realize that statistically half of them are stupider than that. I'm really going to try and make it there this year, though as I've stated before, I can only jump mid week this year. I'm hoping when I do make it there that Todd remembers me. It seems Mr. Kirlin forgot he had a full time spotter L/M for Fat Annie for a jump. We did make a good team taping the skin behind her new "in flight door" with red masking tape while climbing though. No, it isn't Omro either. I heard alot of bad about that place when I was first learning at Wolf River, but quickly learned that it's mostly not true. I jump there primarily when jumping around here, as it's about the same distance from me as Wolf River, and, to me, lots friendlier. It's your life, live it!
